Pre-season rankings

Pre-season rankings are always a bit of a tricky thing. They are based off of what a team did the previous year, but it’s hard to say how much weight should be given to that. There are also a lot of teams in Colorado, so it’s tough to compare them all fairly. But we’re going to give it a shot anyway. Here are our pre-season rankings for the top teams in the state.

Post-season rankings

The final post-season rankings for Class 5A baseball have been released, with a new team taking the top spot. Cherry Creek who was ranked second in the pre-season poll, finished the season with a record of 20-4 and will enter the playoffs as the #1 seed. Regis Jesuit, who was ranked first in the pre-season, dropped to third after finishing 19-5. Rounding out the top 5 are Columbine, Rocky Mountain, and Fossil Ridge

Pre-season predictions

Chsaa Baseball rankings are voted on by a panel of coaches from around the state and compiled by CHSAANow.com. The first set of rankings for the 2019 season were released on Feb. 11, withDefending Class 5A state champion Cherry Creek leading the way in the preseason poll.

The Bruins, who went 25-2 last season en route to their fifth state title in school history, received nine of the 10 first-place votes. Creek will be looking to replace a large senior class from last year that included University of Arizona signee Reilly Jarocki, who was named Gatorade Player of the Year in Colorado, as well as all-state selections Sterling Fuller and Carsen Paxton.

In Class 5A, Regis Jesuit is the top-ranked team in the state and they have been battle-tested, having played one of the toughest schedules in the state. They are led by their ace pitcher, Dylan Hadley, who has been dominant all season.

Lakewood is another team to watch in 5A. They are led by their star hitter, Nate Harris, who is batting .413 with 8 home runs and 32 RBIs. Harris has been one of the best hitters in the state all season and he will be a big factor in how far Lakewood goes in the playoffs.

Cheyenne Mountain is the top-ranked team in 4A and they have been one of the most consistent teams in the state all season. They are led by their senior pitcher, Parker Hardy, who has been pitching well all season. Hardy will need to continue to pitch well if Cheyenne Mountain wants to make a deep run in the playoffs.

Discovery Canyon is another team to watch out for in 4A. They are led by their senior pitcher, Austin French, who has been pitching well all season. French will need to continue to pitch well if Discovery Canyon wants to make a deep run in the playoffs.
