Citadel baseball is a Division I college baseball team that competes in the Southern Conference The team is coached by Tony Robichaux and plays its home games at Raymond most of the players on the team are from California.

The Citadel Bulldogs Baseball Team represents The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina The Bulldogs compete in NCAA Division I Baseball as a member of the Southern Conference (SoCon). They are currently coached by Tony Robichaux and play their home games at Raymond P. Dreher Island’s Joe Riley Park, which opened in 1987 and has a capacity of 3,000 people.

The History of Citadel Baseball

Citadel baseball is one of the most storied programs in NCAA Division I baseball. The program has produced numerous Major League Baseball (MLB) players, including two Rookie of the Year winners and two All-Stars. Citadel alumni have also gone on to have successful careers in coaching and broadcasting.

The Citadel has been a member of the Southern Conference since 1936 and has won nine conference championships most recently in 2015. The Bulldogs have made 23 NCAA tournament appearances, including four trips to the College World Series

Citadel baseball is steeped in tradition and history, dating back to the late 19th century. The program has a rich tradition of success on and off the field, and Citadel alumni have made their mark at the highest levels of baseball.

The Citadel Baseball Program

The Citadel baseball program has a long and successful history. The program has been to the NCAA Tournament 17 times, most recently in 2019. The team has won 10 conference championships and had 20 All-Americans. The Citadel has produced Major League Baseball players such as Mike Cameron, Kevin Millwood, Jake Peavy, and Buddy Perez.

The Citadel Baseball Team

The Citadel Bulldogs are the athletic teams that represent The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina All sports participate in the NCAA Division I as a Southern Conference member. The team nickname is Bulldogs, and the athletes are referred to simply as “The Citadel”, “Citadel”, or “The Bulldog”. Prior to 1924, the teams were called The Cadets. Women’s sports teams were originally called The Honeybees, but all sport teams are now collectively referred to as Bulldogs.

The Citadel Baseball Field

The Citadel baseball field is located on the campus of The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. The field is adjacent to Johnson Hagood Stadium, home of The Citadel Bulldogs football team. The Baseball Field opened in February 2009 and has a seating capacity of 2,500. The playing field dimensions are 320 feet from home plate to both foul lines and 400 feet to center field.

The Citadel Baseball Statistics

The team’s all-time leader in batting average is Joey Digrate, who hit .369 from 2001-2004. Michael Flynn is the leader in home runs with 46, while Aric Harris holds the RBI record with 197. On the pitching side, Chris Harrison has the most wins with 34, while David Miley leads in ERA with a 2.54 mark.

The Citadel Baseball Coaches

The Citadel baseball coaching staff is led by Head Coach Tony Skole. He is in his 28th season as the Bulldogs’ skipper, and his teams have posted a school-record 12 consecutive 30-win seasons. The assistant coaches are Stu Cole, Nick Padilla, Drew O’Neal and Will Casey.

The Citadel Baseball Alumni

The Citadel baseball alumni have always been an important part of the school’s history and tradition. From the early days of the program, when Citadel alumni would return to Charleston to play in pick-up games on weekends, to today, when Citadel baseball alumni are scattered around the country, playing in minor league and Major League Baseball the alumni have always been a big part of the program.

Today, there are over 300 Citadel baseball alumni playing professional baseball around the world. In addition to those playing professionally, there are also many Citadel baseball alumni who have gone on to successful careers in coaching and scouting.
