The History of Columbia Field Hockey

Columbia University’s field Hockey Team has a long and storied history, dating back to the early days of the sport. The team has won numerous National Championships and is widely considered to be one of the best in the country.

The team was founded in 1897, making it one of the oldest Field Hockey teams in the country. The early years of the team were marked by success, as they won several national championships. In recent years the team has continued to be successful, winning multiple conference championships and making multiple appearances in the NCAA tournament

The team is currently coached by Jon Goldberg, who is in his fourth season at the helm. Under his leadership, the team has won two conference championships and made two appearances in the NCAA Tournament

The program is also known for its strong academic success, with a 100% graduation rate for student-athletes.

The Columbia Field Hockey Coaches have compiled a winning tradition that is amongst the best in the country. Since the program’s inception in 1896, the Lions have been led by only eight different coaches. These men and women have helped Columbia become one of the most successful and respected field hockey programs in America.

The Columbia Field Hockey Facilities

Columbia University’s Baker Athletic Complex is home to some of the finest Field Hockey facilities in the country. The $7 million Baker Field Hockey Complex, which opened in 2006, features a state-of-the-art AstroTurf 12 playing surface, an on-site athletic training room and locker room facilities for both the home and visiting teams. The facility also houses the Columbia field hockey office and team lounge.

In addition to the main playing surface, the Baker Field Hockey Complex also features a practice Turf Field and a sand-based field hockey training ground. The practice turf field is utilized by the Columbia Field Hockey Team for both practice and game preparation, while the sand-based training ground allows the team to get in touch with their inner beach athletes and work on their footwork and stick skills.
