The Best in the State
The E.D. White Cardinals are one of the most successful sports teams at the High School level in Louisiana. The Cardinals have won numerous State Championships most recently in 2017, and have produced a number of collegiate and professional players.
Cardinal Pride
The E.D. White Catholic Cardinal Basketball team has had a longstanding tradition of excellence, ranking among the best teams in the state year after year. The team is currently coached by Jon Brown, who has led the Cardinals to new heights since taking over the program in 2010. Under Brown’s leadership, the Cardinals have won four consecutive state championships and are currently ranked No. 1 in the state.
The Cardinals have a rich history of success on the court, dating back to their first state championship in 1961. Since then, they have won 15 more state titles, making them one of the most successful basketball programs in Louisiana history. With such a storied tradition of success, it’s no wonder that Cardinal Pride runs deep among the team’s fans.
The History of E.D. White Basketball
E.D. White Catholic high school is located in Thibodaux, Louisiana, and is part of the Lafourche Parish school system. The school has a long and rich history in basketball, dating back to its days as a boys-only school.
The Cardinals have won four State Championships in basketball, most recently in 2016. They have also been runners-up five times, including three times in the last six years. In addition to their on-court success, the Cardinals have also produced several NBA players including Round 1 draft pick Tyrus Thomas and journeyman shooting guard Devin Brown.
E.D. White Catholic is one of only two schools in Louisiana to have ever won a state championship in both boys’ and girls’ basketball (the other is University high school in Baton Rouge). The school’s success on the hardwood has made it a destination for many of the state’s top teenage prospects, and has helped put Thibodaux on the map as a basketball hotbed.
The Tradition of Excellence
The E.D. White Catholic high school boys’ basketball team has a long tradition of excellence. The team has won five State Championships including three in a row from 2013 to 2015. The Cardinals have also been runners-up six times, most recently in 2017.
The team is coached by Nate Broussard, who has been at the helm since 2013. Broussard has a career record of 192-53, an .784 winning percentage that is the best in school history. He has led the Cardinals to four state titles and two runner-up finishes.
Under Broussard’s leadership, the Cardinals have developed a reputation for playing an up-tempo brand of basketball that is fun to watch. The team’s style of play has produced some great individual performances, as well as team success.
In 2016, point guard Ja’Marr Chase was named Louisiana’s Mr. Basketball after averaging 27 points, eight rebounds and four assists per game Chase went on to play at LSU, where he was named the SEC Freshman of the Year in 2019.
Shooting guard Collin Guggenheim was also named Louisiana’s Mr. Basketball in 2019 after averaging 25 points per game Guggenheim is currently playing at Tulane University
Small forward Peyton Zeringue was named Louisiana’s Gatorade Player of the Year in 2020 after averaging 21 points and eight rebounds per game Zeringue is currently committed to play at Louisiana State University
The E.D White Catholic boys’ Basketball team has a rich tradition of success, both as a team and individually. The Cardinals are always one of the teams to beat in Louisiana, and they always seem to find a way to come out on top.
The Coaching Staff
The E.d. White Cardinal basketball team is coached by a staff of highly experienced and successful coaches. coach John Smith has been the Head Coach for the past seven years, and during that time the team has won two State Championships Coach Smith is a former professional player and has coached at both the college and high school levels. He is widely considered to be one of the best coaches in the state.
Coach Mike Jones is the Assistant Coach and has been with the team for six years. He was a Standout Player in college and brings a wealth of knowledge to the team.
Coach Steve Williams is in his first year with the team but has over 20 years of coaching experience at all levels. He is originally from Louisiana but has lived in Mississippi for the past 10 years.
The E.d. White Cardinals are led by a Coaching Staff that knows how to win championships. With their experience and success, the Cardinals are always one of the top teams in the state.

In recent years the E.D. White Catholic boys basketball team has made waves in the state of Louisiana. The team has seen success both on and off the court, with a Number of players going on to play at the collegiate level.
What does the future hold for E.D. White basketball? With a number of talented young players coming up through the ranks, it is clear that the team has a bright future ahead of them.

Whether it’s packing the stands for a big game or travelling to support the team on the road, Cardinals fans are always there to show their support. And it’s not just because they’re from Thibodaux – people from all over Louisiana have caught Cardinal fever.

E.D. White in the Community
E.D. White Catholic High School’s basketball team is one of the best in the state, and the players are deeply involved in their community. Each year, the team participates in a number of events and activities that give back to the community, including Coaching Clinics food drives, and visitations to local schools.
The team’s commitment to giving back was recently rewarded when they were named the recipient of the Louisiana Sports Association’s Community Service Award. This award is given to a High School athletic team that demonstrates a commitment to service and leadership in their community.
E.D. White head coach Eddie Dominguez said that receiving the award is a great honor for the team and that it would not have been possible without the support of the community. “We are so grateful to have such supportive parents, administrators, and fans,” he said. “Without their help, none of this would be possible.”
The E.D. White Basketball team is an excellent example of how student-athletes can make a positive impact on their community. Their dedication to service is an inspiration to us all.
