The aftermath
Last night was a big night for the Elder baseball team as they won their game against their rivals, the Oak Hills Highlanders. The final score was 10-7, and it was a close game throughout. The team is now 4-0 in conference play and 6-2 overall.
The game started off with the Highlanders scoring two runs in the first inning, but Elder quickly answered back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. The score remained 3-2 until the bottom of the fourth, when Elder scored four more runs to take a 7-2 lead. Oak Hills scored one run in the top of the fifth, but Elder responded with three more runs in the bottom half of the inning to extend their lead to 10-3. The Highlanders would score four more runs in the game, but it wasn’t enough as Elder held on for the 10-7 win.
The team’s next game is tomorrow night at home against Middletown High School

The future of Elder baseball looks promising after another win today With a score of 9-1, the team is now 6-4 for the season.

Founded in 1899 as a semi-professional team by Frank Morganthau Sr., the elder Edmonds Baseball club has a storied history that includes two World Championships and multiple league titles. The team’s heyday was in the early 1900s when they were one of the top teams in Black Baseball The team faded from prominence after Jackie Robinson integrated Major League Baseball in 1947, but they have enjoyed a resurgence in recent years thanks to new ownership and increased interest in Negro League history.
The elder Edmonds team is made up of players who are 55 and older, and they play their home games at historic Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson, New Jersey. The team’s roster includes former big leaguers like Negro League legend Izzy Simmons, as well as local legends like Willie Pearson Jr. They play a Schedule of approximately 20 games each season against teams from across the Northeast region of the country.
