Q: You coached in the independent league before moving up to the minors. What was that experience like?

A: It was a great experience. I learned a lot about coaching and player development And I got to work with some really Great players and coaches. But there’s no doubt that coaching in the minors is a step up in terms of competitiveness and level of play.

Q: What are your goals for your team this season?

A: Our main goal is always to win the division and make it to the playoffs. But we also want to develop our players so they can move up to the next level. And we want to create a positive environment where our players can grow and succeed both on and off the field.

Her Advice for Aspiring Coaches

Apple Covington has been coaching baseball for over 20 years. In that time, she’s seen the game change and evolve – and she’s had a Front Row seat to the progress made by female coaches in the industry. As one of the only female coaches in her league, she’s often asked for advice by aspiring coaches who are looking to make their mark in the world of baseball.

Here are three pieces of advice that Apple always gives to aspiring female coaches:

1. Believe in yourself

This may sound like simple advice, but it’s something that Apple cannot stress enough. As a female coach, you will face doubters and naysayers who don’t believe that you can do the job as well as a man. It’s important to have faith in your own abilities and trust that you can prove them wrong.

2. Work hard

Coaching is a demanding profession, and it requires long hours and dedication. If you’re not willing to put in the work, you won’t be successful. Build a strong work ethic and always be willing to go the extra mile for your team.

3. Be a role model

As a coach, you’re also a role model for your players. They will look up to you and emulation your behavior on and off the field. Be someone worth emulating – be honest, be fair, be compassionate, and be someone who always strives to make a positive impact on those around them.
