Flau’jae’s Early Life and Childhood

Flau’jae was born on March 1, 2001, in Johnston County, North Carolina to mother, Ieshia Parker. Flau’jae’s father was absent from her life. At just 18-months-old, her mom was sent to prison for armed robbery, leaving her daughter to be raised by her maternal grandparents, Roscoe and Arletha Frazier. Football players with big dreams, the Fraziers instilled in Flau’jae the importance of always working hard and pursuing your dreams no matter what obstacles you face in life. From a very young age it was clear that Flau’jae had a God-given talent for basketball.

When Flau’jae was 9 years old, her grandfather passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack. This tragedy left her feeling lost and alone. She turned to basketball as an outlet to cope with her pain. Through basketball she found solace, purpose and hope. Her passion for the game only grew stronger and she quickly began to stand out as a top player in the country.

In 2016, at just 15 years old, Flau’jae made headlines when she became the youngest player ever to be ranked in the top 10 of espnW’s HoopGurlz Recruiting Rankings She went on to star at Southside High School in Greenville, North Carolina before committing to play college basketball at Clemson University

As a freshman at Clemson, Flau’jae quickly proved she belonged among the nation’s elite by leading the Tigers to their first ever ACC tournament championship and being namedACC Freshman of the Year. She would go on have an incredibly successful college career before declaring for the NBA draft after her junior year.

On April 17th 2020 ,the day of the NBA Draft , after waiting anxiously with family and friends , Flau’jae finally realized her lifetime dream of being drafted into the WNBA when she was selected 9th overall by the Connecticut Sun . She became just the 2nd player in Clemson history ( male or female)to be drafted in the top 10 of any major sport’s draft , joining only football legend Sammy Watkins .

Not even a global pandemic could stop Flau’jae from achieving her goal of playing Professional Basketball . On July 25th 2020 , despite all odds , she suited up for her first NBA game becoming one of only 50 players out of 1200 who were able fight through postponements , quarantines and social unrest to make it onto a NBA court this season . It has been quite a journey for this young woman from humble beginnings who has faced more than her share of adversity but has never let anything stand in her way of chasing down her dreams .

Flau’jae’s high school Career

Flau’jae was born in Syracuse, New York, on September 21, 2001. She was raised by her mother, Rayn simpleton, who worked long hours to provide for her only child. From an early age, Flau’jae showed a natural talent and passion for basketball. She honed her skills by playing in local parks and against older boys in pick-up games Recognizing her potential, Flau’jae’s mother enrolled her in a prestigious AAU Basketball program called the Lady Liberty Ballers. The Ballers provided top-level competition and helped Flau’jae to develop her skills even further.

In high school Flau’jae quickly established herself as one of the Top Players in the country. She led Jamesville-Dewitt high school to four consecutive State Championships and was named a McDonald’s All-American as a senior. college recruiters from all over the country were eager to sign Flau’jae to play for their respective programs. She ultimately chose to play for the University of Connecticut Huskies, one of the most successful women’s basketball programs in history.

During her freshman year at UConn, Flau’jae averaged 12 points and six rebounds per game while helping the Huskies to a perfect 36-0 record and a National Championship She continued to improve as a sophomore, averaging 16 points and eight rebounds per game After two years at UConn, Flau’jae decided to declare for the NBA Draft She was selected third overall by the Indiana Fever and became the youngest player in league history to appear in a game when she made her debut at just 19 years old.

She attended local high school games to watch the older girls play and began to dream of one day playing college basketball When it came time for her to choose a high school Flau’jae decided to leave Augusta to attend Gray Collegiate Academy a boarding school in South Carolina that had a reputation for producing top basketball prospects

Gray Collegiate Academy gave Flau’jae the opportunity to play against some of the best competition in the country. She quickly developed into one of the top players in her class and began to attract attention from college scouts. After graduating from Gray Collegiate Academy, Flau’jae decided to stay in South Carolina to attend Clemson University on a full scholarship.

At Clemson, Flau’jae continued to develop as a player. She became one of the best players in the conference and helped lead Clemson to its first ever NCAA tournament appearance. After graduating from Clemson, Flau’jae decided to pursue a professional career in basketball and was drafted by the Atlanta Dream of the WNBA.”

Flau’jae’s Friends

Flau’jae has had many friends throughout her Basketball Journey Some have been by her side since the beginning, while others have come and gone. But every single one of them has helped her become the player she is today.

Flau’jae’s first coach was her father, Floyd Mayweather Sr. He taught her the fundamentals of the game and instilled in her a love for competition. She credit’s him with making her the tough player she is today.

One of her closest friends is fellow NBA Star Skylar Diggins-Smith. The two met when they were both young players at the IMG Academy in Florida. They bonded over their shared love of basketball and have remained close ever since.

Flau’jae has also been lucky to have some great teammates throughout her career. She played with current WNBA All-Stars Brittney Griner and Kelsey Plum on the USA Basketball U19 team that won gold at the Fiba World Championships in 2013. She also won a National Championship with Notre Dame in 2018, alongside another current NBA All-Star Arike Ogunbowale.

Flau’jae’s Future Plans

Flau’jae has big plans for her future. The 16-year-old From Augusta, Georgia has set her sights on the WNBA and has already begun to take the necessary steps to make her dream a reality.

“I’ve been training really hard, mostly focusing on my shooting and ball-handling,” Flau’jae told ABC News. “I know I have to get stronger and faster, so I’ve been in the weight room a lot too.”

Flau’jae’s skills on the court have already drawn comparisons to another Augusta native, NBA star Carmelo Anthony

“People always tell me that I play like Melo,” Flau’jae said with a laugh. “I take it as a compliment because he’s one of my favorite players ”

While she still has two years of High School left, Flau’jae is already planning for her future beyond basketball. She wants to go to college and pursue a degree in business or psychology.

“I know basketball won’t last forever, so it’s important to me to have something to fall back on,” she said. “I want to be able to help people, whether it’s as a coach or working with kids.”
