Fox Chapel Area High School has a long and storied tradition of baseball excellence. The team has won multiple State Championships and has produced dozens of Major League Baseball players. As the team prepares for the upcoming season let’s take a look at its history.
The school’s first Baseball Team was formed in 1893. The team quickly developed a reputation for winning, losing only 2 games in its first 5 years of existence. In 1899, the team won the Allegheny County Championship. The following year, the team won the Western Pennsylvania Championship.
The early success of the team continued into the 20th century. In 1915, the team won its first state championship The team went on to win 2 more state championships in 1923 and 1924. In total, the team has won 9 State Championships
The team has also had Success at the professional level, with 33 Major League Baseball players coming from Fox Chapel Area high school including All-Stars like Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Jason Kendall and Chicago White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle.
As the Fox Chapel Area high school baseball team prepares for another season, it will be looking to add to its already impressive history.

Matt is a junior who is new to the varsity team this year. He is an excellent defender and has a strong arm. Matt will be counted on to help keep runners from stealing bases and to call good games for the pitchers.

Coach Iavarone has over 20 years of coaching experience at both the high school and college levels, and he’s also a former professional baseball player Under his leadership, the Foxes have developed into one of the top teams in the state.
Assistant Coaches:
Tommy LaRussa- Tom LaRussa is in his first season as an Assistant Coach with the Foxes. Coach LaRussa brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team, having served as a head coach at both the high school and college levels. He also has experience as a professional scout.
Mike Dunne- Coach Dunne is also in his first season with the Foxes. He has over 30 years of coaching experience, including stops at several colleges and professional organizations. He’s also been a Head Coach at the high school level. Coach Dunne is considered one of the top pitching coaches in the country.
