In this guide, you will get to know each player on the roster, their position, and what they bring to the table.

Pitching Staff

The pitching staff is one of the most important parts of any Baseball Team and the Ga Tech Yellow Jackets are no exception. Led by ace pitcher XXXXXXXX, the pitching staff is a key part of the team’s success. Here’s a closer look at the pitchers who make up the Yellow Jackets’ pitching staff.

Catchers

Catchers are the backbone of any good baseball team They have to be able to handle the pitching staff and work with the infielders to make sure everyone is on the same page. They also have to be able to hit for average and power. The Ga Tech baseball team has two great catchers that will help lead them to victory this season.

Will Banfield is a junior from Kennesaw, GA. He is a transfer from Chipola College where he was named a Juco All-American. He is a big, physical catcher that can really handle a pitching staff. He has good pop in his bat and should be able to hit for a high average.

Kyle McCann is a sophomore from Duluth, GA. He was named the ACC Freshman of the Year last season after hitting .321 with 10 home runs and 50 RBIs. He has a sweet left-handed swing and should be one of the best hitters in the conference this season.

Infielders

The Georgia Tech baseball team is composed of nine infielders, all of whom play critical roles in the game. These include the first baseman, second baseman, third baseman, shortstop, and catcher.

The infielders are responsible for fielding the ball and throwing it to the pitcher when there is a runner on first base. They also have to hit the ball when they are up to bat. The infielders must be very quick and have good hand-eye coordination in order to be successful.

The first baseman is typically the tallest player on the team. He has to be able to stretch out his arms to catch balls that are thrown to him. The first baseman also has to be able to hit the ball far so that he can get bases hits for his team.

The second baseman is usually shorter than the first baseman and has to be very quick so that he can steal bases for his team. He also has to be able to catch any balls that are hit his way.

The third baseman is responsible for stopping hard-hit balls He also has to be able to throw the ball quickly so that he can get runners out at first base. The third baseman has to be very accurate when he throws the ball because if he misses, the runner could end up getting a free base.

The shortstop is considered one of the most important players on the team because he has to be able stop anything that is hit his way and then throw it quickly to first base in order to get runners out. The shortstop must also have a strong arm so that he can make long throws across the diamond.

The catcher is responsible for catching pitches that are thrown by the pitcher. He also has blocking any wild pitches or passed balls so that they don’t go past him and allow runners advance on base.

Outfielders

The outfield is often where the best athletes on a Baseball Team play. They need to have a combination of speed, power, and accuracy to be able to catch fly balls and throw out runners. TheGa Tech Yellow Jackets are no different. Here is a look at the team’s outfielders.

Junior Kyle Wren is the team’s starting center fielder. He is a speedy player who uses his speed to his advantage on both Offense and defense Wren was named First Team All-ACC in 2012 and 2013, and he was a Finalist for the Golden Spikes Award in 2013.

Sophomore Daniel Palka is the starting Left fielder Palka is a big power hitter who belted 17 home runs last season, which was good for second on the team. He was named First Team All-ACC as well as a Freshman All-American in 2012.

Freshman A.J Murray rounds out the starting outfield as the right fielder. Murray is a local product from Marietta, Georgia who has been praised for his athleticism and his arm strength

Designated Hitter/Utility

Matt Ganter will serve as the Yellow Jackets’ primary designated hitter and will also see time at first base and in the outfield when called upon. The 2019 second-team All-ACC selection as a DH, Ganter ranked second on Tech’s team with a .305 batting average (55-for-180) last season. He also tallied nine home runs second most on the squad, while driving in 36 RBIs.
