Since the turn of the century, Greenhill’s basketball program has seen a meteoric rise in both quality and quantity. What was once a team of five or six guys playing in an empty gym has now transformed into one of the most successful programs in the state of Texas. The man at the helm of this program is coach John Hill, who took over the reins in 2002.
In his time as head coach Coach Hill has led the team to seven state championships and nine district championships. He has also been named Coach of the Year eight times. In addition to on-court success, Coach Hill has also developed a strong sense of community within the team. He has instilled values of teamwork, respect, and accountability in his players, which have served them well both on and off the court.
One of the most impressive aspects of Coach Hill’s tenure is the number of alumni who have gone on to play at the collegiate level. In total, there have been eighteen Greenhill Basketball Alumni who have played at the Division I level, including two who have gone on to play in the NBA. For a program that is still relatively young, this is an incredible accomplishment.
