How the GSC Baseball Tournament Works
Since 1988, the top eight teams in the Gulf South Conference (GSC) standings have participated in a double-elimination tournament to crown a conference champion. The tournament has been held at various locations throughout the conference footprint, and is currently held at MGM Park in Biloxi, Mississippi.
In the first round, the matchups are as follows:
1) Seed 1 vs. Seed 8
2) Seed 2 vs. Seed 7
3) Seed 3 vs. Seed 6
4) Seed 4 vs. Seed 5
The higher seed is the home team for each game in the first round. From there, the winners of each game advance in the winner’s bracket, while the losers drop down into the loser’s bracket. The loser’s bracket is a single-elimination tournament, so once a team loses, they are out of the tournament.
The winner’s bracket and loser’s bracket run concurrently until there are only two teams remaining — one from each bracket. These two teams will then face off in a best-of-three series to determine the GSC Tournament Champion!
