Henry Ford, the founder of the Ford Motor Company, was a baseball fan In the early 1920s, he decided to start his own baseball team the Henry Ford All-Stars. The team was made up of former Major League players, as well as some minor league and semi-professional players. They played against other teams in the Detroit area.
In 1926, Ford decided to start his own baseball league the Henry Ford Interstate League. The league had six teams: the Detroit Tigers the Cleveland Indians the Chicago White Sox the St. Louis Cardinals the Pittsburgh Pirates and the New York Yankees The league only lasted for one season, but it was a success.
In 1933, Ford decided to try again. He started the Henry Ford Eastern League This time, there were eight teams: the Boston Red Sox the Brooklyn Dodgers the Cincinnati Reds the Philadelphia Phillies the Pittsburgh Pirates the St. Louis Cardinals the Washington Senators and the New York Yankees The league only lasted for two seasons before it folded.
However, in 1937, Ford decided to give it one more try. He started what would become one of most successful minor leagues in history: Henry Ford’s Baseball Association The league had eight teams:
the Detroit Tigers
the Chicago White Sox ,
the Cleveland Indians ,

The teams of Henry Ford Baseball
In the early 1900s, Henry Ford, the visionary founder of the Ford Motor Company, had a problem. His workers were leaving his assembly lines to play baseball So, in 1914, he created a company team—the Detroit Eagles—to keep them on the job.
The team did so well that by the early 1920s, there were over 100 Ford-sponsored teams across the country. These teams became known as Henry Ford Baseball and played in their own national league—the Inter-City Baseball Association—from 1922 to 1925.
The league was made up of eight teams: Detroit, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Buffalo, St. Louis, Indianapolis, and GRand Rapids Each team played a total of 80 games per season.
Henry Ford baseball was more than just a way to keep workers on the job; it was also a way for Ford to promote his cars. Teams often took road trips inFord Model Ts (the first car that was affordable for most Americans) and stopped at Ford dealerships along the way to give test drives.
By 1925, the Inter-City baseball Association was one of the most popular baseball leagues in the country. But it all came to an end when Henry Ford sold his interest in the Detroit Eagles—the last remaining team in the league—to new owners who didn’t want anything to do with promoting his cars.
