The Corpus Christi Hooks the Double-A affiliate of the Houston Astros won their fourth game in a row on Tuesday night, defeating the Midland RockHounds 8-4. The Hooks have now won eight of their last ten games and are currently in second place in the Texas League South division, just two games behind the first place San Antonio Missions.
The Hooks got off to a hot start on Tuesday, scoring four runs in the first inning thanks to a two-run homer by Left fielder Josh Reddick and a two-run single by first baseman Koby Clemens. Midland responded with two runs in the bottom of the first, but Corpus Christi quickly regained the lead with another run in the top of the second. The RockHounds tied the game again in the bottom of the third, but that would be as close as they would get as the Hooks scored three more runs over the next four innings to seal the victory.
Right-hander Brandon Backe (9-5) picked up his ninth win of the season for Corpus Christi pitching six innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on ten hits while striking out five batters. Backe has now won his last three starts and has given up three earned runs or less in six of his last seven starts.
The Hooks will look to continue their winning ways on Wednesday night as they take on Midland again. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm CT.
