The Lakeville South Hockey team is headed to the state tournament! The team has been working hard all season and we are so proud of their accomplishments. We wish them the best of luck in the tournament and we know they will represent our school well. Go Cougars!

The players to watch on the team

The Lakeville South high school hockey team is headed to the State Tournament and they have a lot of momentum entering the tournament. The team is led by their captain, senior defenseman Jake Hickey. Hickey is a two-time All-State selection and he has been four times named to the All-Conference team. He is one of the top defenseman in the state and he will be a key player for the team in the tournament.

Other players to watch on the team include junior forward Joey Gunderson and senior goaltender Brady Becker. Gunderson is the leading scorer on the team with 23 goals and 17 assists. Becker has been one of the top goaltenders in the state all season, posting a .939 save percentage

The team has a lot of talent and they will be looking to make a run at the state tournament title.

Lakeville South has a long and successful history in the state tournament having appeared in the tournament twelve times and winning the championship on five occasions. The team has been particularly successful in recent years appearing in the tournament six times in the last ten years and winning championships in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018.

The State Tournament schedule has been released and the Lakeville South Hockey Team is headed to the state tournament! The team’s first game will be against Duluth East on Thursday, March 7th at 1:00pm at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The complete schedule is as follows:

6:00pm – #7 GRand Rapids vs. #2 Hill-Murray
8:00pm – #6 Eden Prairie vs. #3 Minnetonka

Friday, March 8th
1:00pm – Loser of Lakeville South/Duluth East game vs. Loser of Grand Rapids/Hill-Murray game
6:00pm – Winner of Lakeville South/Duluth East game vs. Winner of Grand Rapids/Hill-Murray game
8:00pm – Loser of Eden Prairie/Minnetonka game vs. Winner of Mahtomedi/Wayzata game

Saturday, March 9th (Championship day)
