Head Coach Troy Mann is in his sixth season with the Skyhawks and has compiled a 122-63 record, the most wins by any head coach in program history. He has led the team to four straight 20-win seasons and four consecutive trips to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament In 2019, he was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Coach of the Year after leading the team to a school-record 27 wins and a berth in the NCAA Sweet Sixteen

The History

LC Bird High School’s Basketball Program has a long and storied history. The program has produced some of the most talented players in the country, and the team has been consistently competitive at the state and national level.

The basketball program at LC Bird was started in the early 1960s by Coach Jerry　Bailey. Coach Bailey was a legendary figure in Virginia High School basketball, and he quickly built the LC Bird program into a powerhouse. Under Coach Bailey’s leadership, the LC Bird Basketball team won four State Championships and was ranked #1 in the nation by USA Today in 1992.

In the late 1990s, Coach Bailey retired and LC Bird hired another Virginia legend, Dave Odom, to take over the program. Coach Odom continued the tradition of success, leading the team to four more State Championships and two national top-ten rankings.

Today, LC Bird is once again one of the top programs in Virginia. The team is currently coached by Paul Carey, who has led the team to two State Championships and one national top-ten ranking. Carey’s teams are known for their intense defense and high-scoring offense, and they are always a force to be reckoned with in the postseason.
