Infielders
The Lenoir Rhyne baseball team has a strong lineup this year, with a good mix of veterans and newcomers. Here is a look at the team’s infielders, who should be a big part of the team’s success this season.
Jared Knox – Senior – First Base
Knox is a four-year starter who has been one of the most consistent hitters in the conference over his career. He is a solid defender at first base, and will be looked to as a leader on and off the field.
Landon Union – Junior – Second Base
Union came into his own last season as a sophomore, hitting over .300 with some key extra-base hits. He is an excellent defender at second base, and should be one of the top hitters in the lineup again this season.
Gavin Gray – Sophomore – Third Base
Gray was a surprise contributor last season as a freshman, hitting .270 with some power from the third Base Position He is expected to be one of the top hitters in the lineup this season, and will be counted on to anchor the defense at third base.
Luke Zimmerman – Junior – Shortstop
Zimmerman is a two-year starter who has improved his game each season. He is an excellent defender at shortstop, and should hit near the top of the lineup this season.

Coaches
The Lenoir-Rhyne baseball program has a long and successful tradition dating back over 100 years. The program has produced 19 Major League Baseball players, including Hall-of-Famer Herman Goldstine. The team has also won 12 conference championships and made 12 NCAA tournament appearances.
The current Coaching Staff is led by Head Coach Mark Scalf, who is in his 23rd season at the helm of the program. Scalf has compiled a 789-428-1 (.649) record at LR, including a mark of 639-316 (.670) since the program joined NCAA Division II in 1995. Under his guidance, the Bears have captured 12 conference championships (1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012) and made 12 NCAA Division II tournament appearances (1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2006 ,2007 ,2009 ,2010).

Results
The Lenoir Rhyne Baseball roster is now full after announcing its latest signee. The team has added infielder/outfielder Cole Carden to the 2021 squad. Carden joins the Bears after a two-year career at Hawkeye Community College
A native of Ankeny, Iowa, Carden helped Hawkeye to a pair of conference championships and a berth in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in 2020. He was named a Second Team All-American as a utility player by the NJCAA after hitting .345 with 12 doubles, four home runs and 36 RBIs in 40 games last season.
Carden will have two years of eligibility remaining at Lenoir-Rhyne. He joins a Lenoir-Rhyne squad that went 25-23 overall and 12-12 in league play last season.

Lenoir Rhyne Baseball has announced their full roster for the 2019 season. The team is made up of 26 members, 18 of which are returners from last year’s team. Nine players are freshmen, three are sophomores, and six are upperclassmen. The goal for this season is to make it back to the NCAA Division II Southeast Region tournament.
