LHSAA Basketball Power Rankings

The LHSAA Basketball power rankings are back for another season! See where your team ranks in the latest edition.

As the regular season winds down, it’s time to take a look at how the Louisiana high school Athletic Association’s basketball teams stack up.

Here are the Power Rankings for boys’ and girls’ teams as of Feb. 11:

BOYS
1. Natchitoches Central (23-3, LW: 1) – The Chiefs continue to roll, winning 10 straight since suffering their only losses of the season to Ouachita Parish and Monroe. They have clinched the District 3-5A title and will be a tough out come playoff time.
2. Ouachita Parish (23-3, LW: 2) – The Lions also have been on a roll of late, winning nine in a row since their last loss to Neville. They have clinched at least a share of the District 2-5A title and will be a team to watch in the playoffs.
3. Ruston (22-4, LW: 3) – The Bearcats are coming off a Big Win over then-No. 2 Ouachita Parish and have won eight of their last nine games. They will be a team to watch come playoff time as well.
4. Captain Shreve (21-4, LW: 4) – The Gators have won five straight and seven of their last eight games and appear to be hitting their stride at the right time as they head into the final week of district play.
5. Haughton (18-7, LW: 5) – The Bucs have won five in a row and appear to be playing their best basketball of the season heading into what should be an exciting final week of District 1-5A play with first place on the line.

The Louisiana high school Athletic Association (LHSAA) releases its official Power Rankings for boys and Girls Basketball on a bi-weekly basis throughout the season. The rankings are used to seed teams for the playoffs, which begin in early February.

The LHSAA power rankings are compiled by a committee of Basketball coaches and athletic directors from around the state. The committee uses a formula that considers a team’s record, Strength of Schedule and recent results to determine the rankings.

The top 32 teams in each classification (1A-5A) are seeded for the playoffs, with the top seed receiving a bye in the first round. The playoffs are single-elimination until the semifinals, when the tournament switches to a best-of-three format.
