The Liberty Field Hockey Team is pleased to announce its 2018 roster. This year’s team is composed of twelve talented and hardworking student-athletes who are committed to representing Liberty University with excellence on and off the field. We are looking forward to an exciting season ahead and we are confident that this team has what it takes to compete at the highest level

Returning Players to Watch

The 2018 season is just around the corner, and that means it’s time to start getting to know your Liberty Field Hockey team. This year’s roster is packed with talent, and we can’t wait to see what these ladies can do on the field. Here are a few players to keep an eye on this season:

-Senior captain Sarah Zadroga is a force to be reckoned with in the midfield. A three-time All-Big South selection, she will be looking to lead the team to a fourth consecutive conference title this season.

-Junior goalkeeper Amelia sapienti Arrones came up big for the Lady Flames last season, finishing in the top 10 in the nation in save percentage (.801). She will be anchoring a Liberty defense that aims to be one of the best in the country this year.

-Sophomore forward/midfielder Clara Critchley was named Big South Freshman of the Year after an impressive rookie campaign in which she tallied nine goals and three assists. She will be looked to for continued offensive production this season.

We can’t wait to see what these ladies and the rest of the team will accomplish this season!

The Incoming Class

The 2018 Liberty Field Hockey roster is headlined by The Incoming Class, a talented and deep freshman class that features 12 true freshmen and two redshirt freshmen.

The class is made up of student-athletes from 10 different states, with Pennsylvania (4), New Jersey (3) and Maryland (2) leading the way. Virginia, Ohio, Florida, New York, Massachusetts, North Carolina and Rhode Island are also represented in the class.

The Schedule

The 2018 Liberty Field hockey schedule is now available! The Flames will play six home games and six road games this season, highlighted by a matchup with defending NCAA champion North Carolina on September 9. Overall, Liberty will face five teams that competed in the 2017 NCAA tournament four of which made it to the Round of 16 or beyond.

The Coaches

We are excited to introduce the 2018 Liberty Field Hockey coaching staff!

Head coach Traye Davis enters her ninth season at the helm of the program in 2018. She has led the team to seven Big South Conference regular season titles and five Big South tournament championships. The Flames have made six NCAA Tournament appearances under Davis, reaching the Round of 16 in 2014.

Assistant coach Karen Shelton is in her first season with the Flames. She brings over 30 years of Division I coaching experience, most recently serving as Head Coach at North Carolina from 1986-2016. Shelton led the Tar Heels to 11 NCAA National Championships and was named National Coach of the Year six times.

The Liberty Field Hockey Tradition

The Liberty field hockey tradition is one of excellence. The program has been one of the most successful in the country since its inception in 1971, winning 20 conference championships and making 22 NCAA tournament appearances. The 2018 team will look to continue that tradition with a roster full of talented players.

The Facilities

The Liberty field Hockey Team plays its home games at the Liberty field hockey Complex, located on the campus of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. The facility features a full-size Turf Field making it one of the premier field hockey venues in the country. The complex is also home to the Liberty field hockey Academy, which provides training and development opportunities for young athletes

The Fans

The 2018 Liberty Field Hockey roster is filled with fresh talent and exciting newcomers. head coach Chris Turkheimer has high hopes for the team and is looking forward to seeing what they can do on the field. The fans are also eager to see how the team will perform this season.

The team has a lot of potential and the fans are excited to see how they will do this season.

The Liberty way is simple – outwork the competition, give 110% on the field, and have fun doing it. This year’s team embodies that mindset and is ready to take on anything that comes their way.
