That campaign was the best in program history until the 1993-94 team went 30-4-4 and made it all the way to the Frozen Four. After that, the Lakers experienced some tough times, but they rebounded in a big way in 2006. That year, LSSU went 34-8-4, won both the CCHA regular season and tournament titles, and made it to the NCAA championship game before falling to Wisconsin 2-1 in overtime. The Game:

In order to fully understand the sport of hockey, one must first know the basics of the game.

Hockey is an ice sport played on a rink by two teams of skaters who use curved sticks to shoot a hard rubber puck into their opponent’s net. The object of the game is to score more goals than the other team.

There are three main periods in a hockey game each lasting 20 minutes. If the score is tied at the end of regulation time, there will be a Sudden death overtime period

The game is played on a sheet of ice that is 200 feet long and 85 feet wide The surface is divided into zones by red lines that extend across the width of the rink. There are three offensive zones and three defensive zones, as well as a Neutral Zone in between them.

Each team has six players on the ice at any given time: three forwards, two defensemen, and one goaltender. The forwards are responsible for scoring goals while the defensemen try to prevent the other team from scoring. The goaltender’s job is to stop any shots that get past the defensemen.

Hockey is a fast-paced and physical sport that requires split-second decisions and quick reflexes. It is also a very strategic game, and coaches often spend hours analyzing film in order to find weaknesses in their opponents’ gameplan.

Whether you’re a diehard fan or someone who just wants to learn more about the sport, take some time to familiarize yourself with hockey jargon before diving into conversations with more experienced fans.

The Future

It’s hard to imagine, but the 18-19 season will be the Lake Superior State men’s hockey team’s 50th in program history. To put that into perspective, when the team first took to the ice in 1965-66, players were still using wooden sticks, goalies didn’t wear masks and passing the puck forward wasn’t allowed. A lot has changed since then, but one thing remains the same: Laker hockey is a storied tradition with a bright future
