Mark Whitten’s Baseball Career

Mark Whitten played baseball for 14 years. He is a 3-time All-Star and won a Gold Glove in 2003.

Early life and career

Mark Whitten was born on September 6, 1966, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He grew up in a baseball family his father, Dick, was a minor league player and his grandfather, Gus, played for the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox Mark played Little League Baseball and then Babe Ruth League Baseball before attending Notre Dame High School He played both shortstop and pitcher during his high school career.

Whitten was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the second round of the 1984 Major League Baseball draft. He did not sign with the Brewers and instead attended college at Ohio State University He played shortstop for the Ohio State Buckeyes baseball team from 1985 to 1988. As a senior, he was named first team All-Big Ten Conference. He graduated from Ohio State with a degree in finance in 1988.

Whitten was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the sixth round of the 1988 Major League Baseball draft and he began his professional career that year.

The Major Leagues

Mark Whitten played in the Major Leagues for ten seasons. He was a member of the Seattle Mariners San Francisco Giants Chicago Cubs New York Yankees and Cincinnati Reds He appeared in 704 games and had 2,025 hits. His best season was 2001 with the Mariners when he hit .327 with206 hits.

Retirement

After spending fourteen years in the MLB, Mark Whitten has decided to retire. Mark Whitten was first drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2000 and has since played for the Oakland Athletics Tampa Bay Rays Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs

“I’m grateful for everything that baseball has given me,” said Whitten. “It’s been a great ride, but it’s time for me to move on to the next phase of my life.”

Mark Whitten was a two-time All-Star and won a World Series with the Boston Red Sox in 2007. He finishes his career with a .276 batting average 1,618 hits, and 234 home runs

Mark Whitten is considered one of the best baseball players of his time. He played for the Seattle Mariners New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox His career batting average was .303, and he played in 7 All-Star games. He was inducted into the Mariners Hall of Fame in 2006.
