Major League Baseball (MLB)
There are currently 30 teams in Major League Baseball (MLB), with 29 located in the United States and one in Canada. Of these teams, seven have logos that feature a Mexico-related theme. These teams are the Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago White Sox Houston Astros Los Angeles Angels Milwaukee Brewers San Diego Padres and Texas Rangers
The logo of the Arizona Diamondbacks features a snake coiled around a baseball diamond The snake is meant to represent the diamondback rattlesnake, which is found in the southwestern United States and Mexico. The Chicago White Sox’s logo features a White Sox (a type of sock) as its primary element. The team’s name is a reference to the all-white uniform worn by the team’s players during spring training games played in Arizona and Florida, where Mexican-American laborers were common at the time.
The Houston Astros’ logo features an starburst behind their team name. The starburst is meant to represent both astronomic phenomena and synergy, as it was inspired by the team’s new home stadium – Minute Maid Park – which opened in 2000. The Los Angeles Angels’ logo pays homage to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, as it features a haloed angel wings and a starry background.
The Milwaukee Brewers’ logo is one of the most unique on this list, as it features a left-facing beer barrel with “MILWAUKEE BREWERS” written across it in white lettering. Behind the barrel is a baseball diamond with blue outlining. The San Diego Padres’ logo also features a reference to their home city, as it contains an interlocking “SD” that references both the city’s skyline and waves crashing on its beaches.
Lastly, the Texas Rangers’ logo contains both Spanish and English text within its design. This is fitting given that Texas was once part of Mexico before becoming its own country in 1836.
