The Top 5 Mike Scioscia Fleer Cards
As a diehard Anaheim Angels fan, I was stoked to tear open a new pack of Fleer cards and see Mike Scioscia’s face staring back at me. For those who don’t know, Scioscia is a former catcher who played for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1980-1992. He then became the Angels’ manager in 2000 and led the team to their first World Series title in 2002. He’s also a two-time AL Manager of the Year. In short, he’s a legend, and these are his best cards.
1. 1990 Fleer #603 Mike Scioscia RC – This is Scioscia’s rookie card and it’s definitely his most valuable. It features him in his Dodgers uniform, holding a bat on his shoulder with a worried look on his face. The background is a gradient of blue that fades to white, with “Los Angeles Dodgers” printed in blue at the top. It’s a simple yet effective design, and the fact that it’s his rookie make it even more sought-after by collectors.
2. 1991 Fleer #650 Mike Scioscia – This is another great card of Scioscia as a Dodger. It shows him mid-swing, about to connect with the ball for a hit. The blue background from his Rookie Card is gone, replaced by a photo of Dodger Stadium behind him. His name and position are printed in gold foil at the bottom, adding a touch of luxury to the card.
3. 1992 Fleer #341 Mike Scioscia – This card was released near the end of Scioscia’s career with the Dodgers, but it’s still one of his best Fleer cards nonetheless. It shows him catching the ball while wearing his Dodger blue gear. Again, Dodger Stadium can be seen in the background, this time with fans cheering in the stands. The blue and gold color scheme from his previous two cards is continued here, making for a nice consistent look if you have all three of them side-by-side in your collection.
