Introduction

The Morehead baseball team is on the rise. After a disappointing 2018 season, the team has rebounded in a big way. With a mix of experienced veterans and talented young players Morehead is primed for success.

Led by Head Coach Davey Johnson, the team has adopted a new mantra: “Win the day.” This mindset has propelled the team to new heights. So far this season, Morehead has won 20 of its first 30 games. The team is currently in first place in its conference and looks poised to make a run at the conference championship

With a strong foundation in place, the future is bright for Morehead baseball.

Team History

The Morehead Baseball Team has a long and storied history, dating back to their days as an independent group of ballplayers. The team was formed in 1892 and played their first game against the Louisville Colonels The Morehead team was made up of local players from the area, including many who had played for the Louisville Colonels prior to joining Morehead.

The team quickly gained a reputation for being a tough and scrappy bunch, never backing down from a challenge. They were also known for their resourcefulness, often using whatever materials they had on hand to fashion crude but effective baseball equipment

The Morehead baseball team became known as the “Colonels” in 1896, when they acquisitionsed a formal uniform from the Louisville Colonels. The team kept the name even after Louisville dropped professional baseball in 1899.

The Morehead Colonels were one of the most successful independent baseball teams of their era, winning multiple championships and regularly attracting top-tier talent. In 1914, the team even managed to lure Future Hall of-Famer Ty Cobb away from the Major Leagues for a short time.

Sadly, the Morehead Colonels disbanded in 1924 due to financial difficulties. However, the team left behind a legacy of determination and grit that continues to inspire those who love baseball today.

The Current Roster

The Morehead baseball team is currently made up of 22 student athletes, all of whom are committed to helping the team succeed both on and off the field. The roster includes players from all over the country, as well as a few international students. This diversity helps the team to bond and learn from one another, creating a positive and supportive environment.

The coaching staff is also highly dedicated to the success of the team. head coach Ben Sizemore has been with the team for three years and has helped to dramatically improve the team’s record. He is assisted by pitching coach Jordan Shepherd and hitting coach Kevin O’Sullivan. These three coaches work tirelessly to help the players improve and reach their full potential.

The Morehead Baseball team has seen a rise in popularity among the student body, and with that a rise in fandom. The fans are some of the most dedicated in Division III baseball They travel well to away games and are always looking for ways to improve their game day experience.

The players and coaches take time to interact with fans before and after games, and they are always willing to sign autographs. The team also has a strong social media presence, which allows fans to connect with the team even when they can’t make it to the ballpark.

The ballpark

In Morehead, Kentucky, baseball is more than a game—it’s a way of life. The Morehead State Eagles have a rich history dating back to the late 1800s, and the team has been a longtime staple in the community.

The Eagles play their home games at University Field located on the campus of Morehead State University The ballpark has a capacity of 4,000 fans and features a newly renovated press box and seating area. The Eagles have called University Field home since the team’s inception in 1896.

The Morehead State baseball program has seen a lot of success over the years, winning five Ohio Valley conference championships and making four NCAA tournament appearances. The Eagles have also produced a number of Major League Baseball players, including former All-Star second baseman Bret Boone.

With a new Head Coach at the helm and a promising group of young players the future is bright for Morehead State baseball The Eagles are poised to make noise in the OVC and beyond in the years to come.

The Rivalries

The Morehead-Lexington rivalry is one of the most intense in Kentucky, and it has only grown in recent years The two teams met for the first time in 2004, when the Legends were founded. Since then, they have met every year, with Morehead winning six of the seven matchups.

The most recent meeting was on May 28, 2018, when Morehead won 9-3. The game was attended by a sellout crowd of 8,000 people, and it was one of the most electric atmosphere’s ever at Whitaker Bank Ballpark

The Post-Season is upon us, and the Morehead Baseball Team is poised to make a run at the championship. After a hard-fought regular season the team has secured a spot in the playoffs and is looking to make some noise.

Led by ace pitcher Jake Olsen, the Morehead baseball team has been turning heads all season long Olsen has been dominant on the mound, posting a 12-4 record with a 2.48 ERA. He will be counted on to lead the charge in the postseason.

The Morehead offense has also been clicking as of late, averaging 7.5 runs per game over their last 10 games. The team will look to continue their hot hitting in the playoffs.
