About the team

Since the 2008-2009 season, the Motlow State Bucks men’s basketball team has been on the rise. In just their second season under Head Coach Cory Cooper, the Bucks advanced to the semifinals of the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) tournament for the first time since 2005. They followed that up with back-to-back trips to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament in 2009-2010 and 2010-2011.

The players

The Motlow State Bucks men’s Basketball team is a relatively young team, but one that is quickly making a name for itself. Simon, a native of Detroit, Michigan, played college basketball at Wayne State University from 1988-1992. He began his coaching career as an assistant at Wayne State before taking over as Head Coach at Motlow State in 2015.

In his four years at Motlow State, Simon has led the team to two TCCAA regular season championships and three TCCAA tournament appearances. The Bucks have also won two NJCAA Region VII titles and made two trips to the NJCAA Division I national tournament.

The fans

The fans are a big part of what makes Motlow such a special place to play basketball They are loud and proud and really know how to make their presence felt. The student section known as the “Motlow Mob,” is especially rowdy and gets the crowd going with their chants and cheers. It’s not uncommon for the Motlow Mob to be featured on TV during game broadcasts.

The games

The Motlow State Bucks play their home games at Copperweld Arena, located on the campus of Motlow State Community College in Lynchburg, Tennessee. The arena has a capacity of 1,500 and is the home court for the men’s and women’s basketball teams as well as the Motlow State Lady Bucks volleyball team.

The Bucks have had success in recent years winning back-to-back conference championships in 2017 and 2018. The team has also made appearances in the NJCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.
