The team is led by its ace pitcher, Tyler Simpson. Simpson is a junior who has already drawn interest from several MLB scouts. He will be pitching for MVCC this season as he continues to develop his skills.
The team’s success will also depend on its hitting. The lineup features several players who have the potential to be big run producers. Among them are first baseman Jake Martin and outfielder/third baseman Ryan Sweeny. Both players are sophomores and are expected to be major contributors this season.

The Team’s History
The Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) Hawks Baseball Team located in Utica, New York, is a junior college baseball team that competes in the Mountain Valley Conference (MVC) of the National junior college Athletic Association (NJCAA).
MVCC was founded in 1946, and the baseball team began play in 1967. The Hawks have appeared in six NJCAA Division III World Series most recently in 2016. They have also won fourteen Mountain Valley conference championships and thirteen Region III championships.
MVCC has had seventeen Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft selections and thirty-four former players have gone on to play professional baseball

The Team’s Home Field
The MVCC Hawks play their home games at the Robert W. Fuller Athletic Complex. The facility includes a synthetic turf baseball field four lighted tennis courts, an eight-lane swimming pool, and a 2,000-seat stadium. The complex is located on the college’s Utica campus.
The Team’s Rivals
The Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) Hawks Baseball team is one to watch. They have been dominating their opponents, including their biggest rivals, Onondaga Community College (OCC) and Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC), for the past few years. OCC and HVCC are both well-established Community College teams with strong programs, so the Hawks have had to work hard to build their reputation.
The Hawks have done an admirable job of meeting the challenge, and they are now considered one of the top Community College teams in New York State Their hard work has paid off, and they are regularly ranked in the top 10 of national Junior College polls. The team’s success is due in large part to the outstanding play of its pitchers and hitters.
The Hawks’ pitching staff is anchored by ace starter Tyler Murphy, who has been dominant since he joined the team. In relief, the Hawks have two shutdown closers in Jacob Crain and Ryan Cook. The pitching staff has been so good that they have often carried the team when the offense has struggled.
The Hawks’ hitters have also been playing well lately. First baseman/catcher Mike D’Angelo has been leading the way with his power hitting. He already has four home runs this season, which is more than any other player on the team. Outfielder Matt Maestri has also been swinging a hot bat lately, and he is currently second on the team in batting average (.360).
The Team’s Coaches
The MVCC baseball team is coached by Head Coach MattTORRIERI and assistant coaches Jason Difalco and Michael Orsini. CoachTORRIERI is in his fourth season with the Hawks, and has led the team to two conference championships and one regional title. He was named the Conference Coach of the Year in 2017. Coach Difalco is in his second season with MVCC, and has helped the team to a conference championship and a regional title. Coach Orsini is in his first season with the Hawks, and has helped the team to a Conference Championship

The future of the MVCC baseball team is looking bright. The team has a great mix of young talent and experienced veterans. The Coaching Staff is top-notch and the team has a strong fan base.
