The Nashville Knights Hockey Club

The Nashville Knights Hockey Club is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing a positive environment for children to learn the game of hockey.

1.The History of the Nashville Knights Hockey Club

The Nashville Knights Hockey Club is a professional ice Hockey Team based in Nashville, Tennessee. They are members of the Central Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Knights play their home games at Bridgestone Arena.

The franchise was founded in 1971 as the Atlanta Flames and became the Calgary Flames in 1980. In 1998, the Flames moved to Nashville. The name “Knights” was chosen to reflect both the musical heritage of Nashville and the chivalrous nature of knights.

The team has qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs eight times, most recently in 2017. The franchise has won one conference championship in 2019.

2.The Nashville Knights Hockey Club Today

Nashville’s Hockey Team is now known as the Nashville Predators but the city’s hockey history actually dates back to the Nashville Knights. The Nashville Knights were a minor league professional Ice Hockey team that played in the South Eastern Hockey League (SEHL) from 1962 to 1971. The team was based in Nashville, Tennessee, and played its home games at the Municipal Auditorium.

The Knights were founded in 1962 as an expansion team of the SEHL. The team finished its inaugural season with a record of 32 wins and 29 losses, and made it to the playoffs where they lost to the Charlotte Checkers in the first round. For the next two seasons, the Knights failed to make the playoffs. In their third season, 1965-66, they made it to the playoffs again but lost in the first round. The following year they finally made it to the finals, but lost to the Charlotte Checkers once again.

In 1967, one of the league’s most famous players joined the Nashville Knights: Phil Esposito Esposito had already played for several years in the National Hockey League (NHL) with Chicago and Boston, and had won two Stanley Cups with Boston. He joined Nashville for one season before moving on to play for other teams in different leagues. Despite his short time with the team, Esposito is still remembered as one of Nashville’s greatest players

After several seasons of making it close but not quite winning the Championship Title the Nashville Knights finally won their first and only SEHL championship in 1970-71. They beat out Charlotte once again forthe title, and this time also won against them inthe playoffs. After winningthe championship, several players onthe team movedon to different leaguesor retired, andthe following yearthe Knightswere soldand became
the HamptonsGulls.The Gullswould only playfor one seasonbefore folding as well.

3.The Nashville Knights Hockey Club’s Rivalries

Rivalries are a huge part of sports. They add an extra layer of excitement for both the fans and the players alike. For the Nashville Knights, there are two teams that stand out above the rest as their biggest rivals.

The first is the Memphis Rogues. The Rogues are Nashville’s closest geographical rival, and the two teams have been facing off against each other since the Knights’ inception in 1972. The Rogues are currently a member of the Central Hockey League but the two teams have met 37 times in exhibition play, with the Knights holding a 20-17 edge.

The second biggest rival for Nashville is the Atlanta Flames The Flames joined the NHL in 1972 as an expansion team, one year before Nashville joined the World Hockey Association The two teams met 16 times in exhibition play during their time in their respective leagues, with Atlanta winning 11 of those contests. However, since both teams joined the NHL in 1979, they have only met 12 times total, with Nashville winning 8 of those matchups.

They are currently the only professional Hockey team in Tennessee.
