The Coaches

The current Head Coach of the NC Central basketball team is LeVelle Moton. He has been the head coach since 2011. The assistant coaches are Roderick Blakeney and Damon Archibald.

The Schedule

The 2019-2020 Basketball season is nearly upon us, and that means it’s time to get to know your NC Central Eagles! Here’s a breakdown of the team’s schedule, so you can plan ahead for all the exciting action.

The Eagles will open their season at home on November 5th against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. From there, they’ll hit the road for three games before returning home to take on Norfolk State on November 19th. The team will then travel to face off against Morgan State on November 26th before wrapping up their non-Conference Schedule with a game against St. Andrews Presbyterian College on December 3rd.

After a short break for exams, the Eagles will open conference play at home against Hampton on December 28th. They’ll remain at home to take on Howard on December 30th before hitting the road again for games against Delaware State (January 4th), Coppin State (January 8th), and Maryland Eastern Shore (January 11th). NC Central will then return home for three straight games, taking on Norfolk State (January 18th), Bethune-Cookman (January 22nd), and Savannah State (January 25th).

The Eagles will finish out their regular season with six straight conference games, four of which will be on the road. They’ll take on Florida A&M (February 1st), North Carolina A&T (February 5th), South Carolina State (February 8th), Hampton (February 15th), Howard (February 22nd), and finally Delaware State (February 29th).

The Fans

The Arena

NC Central’s home arena is the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, which is also home to the Durham Bulls minor League Baseball team. The arena seats 10,000 spectators and has a state-of-the-art sound system. The arena is located in downtown Durham, North Carolina

The History

North Carolina Central University’s men’s Basketball Program has a long and storied history. The Eagles have been to the NCAA tournament 11 times, with their most recent appearance coming in 2019. They have won 15 conference championships most recently in 2019. They have also been to the National Invitation Tournament six times, with their most recent appearance coming in 2018. The Eagles have produced several NBA players including Hall of Famer Alonzo Mourning.

The Rivalries

The basketball teams of the University of North Carolina system are some of the most storied and successful programs in NCAA history. The Tar Heels of UNC-Chapel Hill have won five NCAA Championships while NC State and UNC Charlotte have each won one. The three schools have a long-standing rivalry, with each team looking to one-up the others on and off the court.
