The Best places to watch New Orleans Baseball
Whether you’re a fan of the New Orleans Pelicans or the Baby Cakes there’s no better place to watch a game than in one of the city’s great baseball stadiums From historic sul-phur-infused sites to brand-new facilities with all the bells and whistles, here are some of our favorite places to catch a game in New Orleans.
The Pelicans play their home games at Smoothie King Center which is located right in the heart of downtown New Orleans. The stadium opened in 1999 and has seen some major renovations in recent years including the addition of new concession stands and an expanded concourse. Smoothie King Center is also home to the popular Friday Night Concert Series, which takes place before each Home game
Next door to Smoothie King Center is TPC Louisiana, home of the Zurich Classic Of New Orleans golf tournament. The stadium opened in 2005 and can accommodate up to 22,000 fans. The facility features two massive video boards, a 400-foot long driving range and 18 luxury suites. TPC Louisiana is also one of the few stadiums in the country that has a dedicated dog park for fans who want to bring their four-legged friends to the game.
If you’re looking for a more intimate baseball experience head over to Shirley Povich Field at Maryland State Park. The 8,500-seat stadium was built in 1950 and is named after legendary Washington Post sportswriter Shirley Povich. The stadium has been renovated several times over the years, most recently in 2012 when new scoreboards and concessions stands were added.
For a truly unique baseball experience head over to Lafayette Square where you’ll find Mankato MoonDogs Stadium. The 4,000-seat stadium was built in 1996 and is located right next to the Mississippi River. The stadium has a retractable roof so games can be played rain or shine. In addition to baseball games Mankato MoonDogs Stadium also hosts concerts and other special events throughout the year.
