-Norfolk State’s Jordan Butler sinking a three-pointer early on in the game, setting the tone for the Spartans’ victory
-D’Shon Taylor making a dunk in the second half, increasing the Spartans’ lead
-The Hawks missing several key shots in the last minutes of the game, allowing the Spartans to seal their victory

Coach’s Reaction
Norfolk State basketball coach Robert Jones was pleased with his team’s performance in their win against Hampton on Saturday.
“I thought we played well,” he said. “We executed our game plan and got the win.”
Jones was also happy with the way his team defended Hampton’s star player who managed to score only 12 points.
“Our defense was really solid,” he said. “We did a good job of containing their best player and forcing them to take tough shots.”
The Spartans will now turn their attention to their next game, against Howard on Wednesday night.

Game Recap
The Norfolk State Spartans men’s Basketball team won their game against the Howard Bison on Saturday, January 13, 2018. The final score was Norfolk State 82, Howard 60.
The Spartans started the game strong, scoring the first basket and never looking back. Norfolk State led by as many as 26 points in the first half and went into halftime with a 43-21 lead.
Howard came out of halftime with more energy and began to chip away at the Spartans’ lead. But Norfolk State kept their composure and extended their lead to 20 points by the end of the game.
This was a Big Win for Norfolk State, who improve to 7-9 on the season and 2-1 in conference play The Spartans will look to continue their winning ways when they take on conference rival Hampton on January 16.

The next game for the Norfolk State Spartans is against the University of Richmond Spiders The Spartans are coming off of a win against Hampton, and will look to continue their winning ways against the Spiders. The Spartans are currently 4-4 on the season, and a win against the Spiders would put them at .500 for the season. The game will be played at the Richmond Coliseum, and tip-off is set for 7:00 PM.

Norfolk State University’s men’s basketball team has had a great season so far, with a current record of 16-4. The Spartans have won their last eight games in a row, and are currently leading the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference with a 9-1 record. Their most recent victory was an 84-81 overtime win against conference rivals Howard University
The Spartans have been led by senior guard Jeff Goodrich, who is averaging 17.8 points per game and junior forward Kyle Driver, who is averaging 14.1 points and 8.6 rebounds per game The team has seen solid contributions from other players as well, including sophomore guard Derrik Jamerson Jr., who is averaging 11.5 points per game and junior forward Adrian Rodgers, who is averaging 10.5 points and 7.1 rebounds per game
