Norwin Baseball’s History

Norwin Baseball has a rich tradition of success, dating back to the early days of the program. Norwin High School has always been a powerhouse in Western Pennsylvania, winning multiple State Championships and producing many Major League Baseball players. The Norwin baseball program has a long history of success and is one of the most respected programs in the state.

Norwin Baseball’s Championships

Norwin Baseball has been a tradition of excellence in Western Pennsylvania since the program’s inception in 1947. The team has won numerous championships at the district, regional, and state levels. Most recently, the team won the PIAA Class AAAA state championship in 2016.

The Norwin Baseball Program has produced many Major League Baseball players, including Hall of Famer Manny Sanguillen and All-Star John Candelaria. The team has also been a stepping stone for many players to pursue collegiate careers at top programs such as the University of Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt University and Clemson University

Norwin Baseball is a proud tradition of Western Pennsylvania and will continue to be a force in high school baseball for many years to come.

Norwin Baseball’s Notable Players

Norwin high school has a long and proud tradition of excellence in baseball. Over the years, many Norwin alumni have gone on to have successful careers in Professional Baseball Here are just a few of the most notable players:

-Larry Hisle: A former Major League Baseball outfielder and designated hitter Hisle played for the Milwaukee Brewers Toronto Blue Jays and Minnesota Twins He was a two-time All-Star and won a World Series championship with the Twins in 1987.

-Gregory Polanco: An outfielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates Polanco made his Major League debut in 2014. He was named to the National League All-Star team in 2018.

-Riley Adams: A catcher in the San Diego Padres organization, Adams was drafted by the Padres in the third round of the 2017 MLB Draft

Norwin Baseball’s Coaches

Norwin Baseball has a long tradition of success, led by our outstanding coaches.

Coach Bob Lesniewski took over the program in 2001, and he led the team to their first WPIAL Championship in 2002. Coach Lesniewski’s teams have won 5 WPIAL Championships and 3 PIAA Championships. He was named PIAA Coach of the Year in 2012.

Coach Pete Albertsen joined the Norwin baseball coaching staff in 2006. He has helped lead the team to 3 WPIAL Championships and 2 PIAA Championships.

Coach Joe Petrella became the head Junior varsity coach in 2010. Under his leadership, the junior varsity team has won 3 WPIAL Championships and 2 PIAA Championships.

Norwin Baseball’s Facilities

Norwin Baseball takes great pride in its facilities, which are among the best in Western Pennsylvania. The Baseball Complex consists of four lighted baseball fields a concessions building, and a press box. The fields are all maintained at a high level of quality, and the concession building and press box provide our players and fans with a comfortable place to enjoy the games.

Norwin Baseball’s Community Involvement

Norwin Baseball is committed to giving back to the community that supports the team. Throughout the year, the team participates in many community service projects. Some of these projects include:

-Volunteering at the local food bank
-Collecting coats for the winter coat drive
-Visiting sick children at the hospital

Norwin Baseball’s Future

Norwin high school has a long and rich tradition of success in baseball. Under the guidance of Head Coach John Cummings, the team has won five state championships and six district titles. The team is also a three-time WPIAL runner-up. Norwin Baseball is one of the premier programs in Western Pennsylvania.

The future of Norwin Baseball looks bright. The team has a solid core of young talent that should keep the team competitive for years to come. With Coach Cummings at the helm, Norwin Baseball will continue to be one of the top programs in the state.
