Introduction
It’s that time of year again. The time when every High School basketball team in the state is fighting for their chance to be crowned champions. But before the playoffs even begin, there’s always the question of which teams are the best in the state.
That’s why we’ve put together this list of the top 10 teams in New York State based on their records and Strength of Schedule So whether you’re a fan of one of these teams or not, there’s no denying that they’re some of the best in the state.
#1: NY Knicks
The New York Knicks are the #1 ranked team in the state of New York. They have a record of 19-3 and are currently on a six-game Winning Streak The Knicks are led by All-Star power forward/center Kristaps Porzingis who is averaging 28.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game. Other Key Players for the Knicks include small forward Carmelo Anthony point guard Derrick Rose and center Joakim Noah. The Knicks are coached by Jeff Hornacek and play their home games at Madison Square Garden in New York City
#2: Brooklyn Nets
The Brooklyn Nets are currently ranked as the #2 team in NYS. They have an overall record of 13-4, with a recent win against the NY Knicks. The Nets are led by Kyrie Irving who is averaging 27.4 points per game Other key contributors include Caris Levert and Spencer Dinwiddie. The Nets have shown they are a force to be reckoned with and are looking to make a deep run in the playoffs.
#3: Buffalo Sabres
The Buffalo Sabres are one of the most dominant teams in the NHL today They’re currently ranked 3rd in the league and are coming off of a 6-2 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins The Sabres have been led by captain Jack Eichel who has tallied 17 points in 19 games played
#4: Rochester Americans
The Rochester Americans are a professional ice Hockey Team in the American Hockey League The team is currently the fourth-ranked team in the state of New York.
The Americans play their home games at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, New York. The team was founded in 1956 and has won one Calder Cup Championship, which they accomplished in 1996.
#5: Albany Devils
The Albany Devils are currently ranked 5th in the state of New York for basketball teams The team has a strong record, and is considered one of the top contenders for the State Championships this year. The Devils are coached by John Gagliardi, who has led the team to two consecutive conference championships In addition to their talented coach, the Devils have a number of star players including point guard Anthony Melendez and center Mike Williams. With their deep bench and strong record, the Albany Devils are a team to watch this season.
#6: Syracuse Crunch
The Syracuse Crunch are ranked #6 in the NYS Basketball Rankings They have a strong team and are expected to do well this season.
#7: Utica Comets
The Utica Comets are a professional Ice Hockey team in the American Hockey League (AHL) that began play in 2013. The team is owned by the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League (NHL). The team plays its home games at the Adirondack Bank Center at the Utica Memorial Auditorium in downtown Utica, New York.
As of February 26, 2018, the Comets are ranked 7th overall in the NYS basketball rankings
#8: Binghamton Senators
The Binghamton Senators are ranked #8 in the New York State Basketball Rankings. The team is 15-5 overall and 11-3 in conference play The Senators have wins over some of the top teams in the state, including #9 Syracuse and #10 Buffalo.
#9: Bridgeport Sound Tigers
The Bridgeport Sound Tigers are a professional ice Hockey Team that is currently ranked #9 in the New York State Basketball Rankings. The Sound Tigers are based in Bridgeport, Connecticut and play their home games at the Webster Bank Arena The team is a member of the American Hockey League and is affiliated with the National Hockey League’s New York Islanders
#10: Hartford Wolf Pack
The Hartford Wolf Pack are sitting at the bottom of the totem pole in the Eastern Conference with a record of 13-17-4. They’re currently ranked 10th in the conference and 30th in the league. They’re coming off of a 3-2 overtime loss to the Charlotte Checkers.
