The Games to Watch
The rosters are in for the 2014 Fiba Basketball World Cup and there are a lot of familiar names on the list. The United States is sending a formidable team to the tournament, as they look to defend their title from 2010. Led by Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving the US is looking to go back-to-back in international competition.
Other Teams to Watch out for include host nation Spain, who will have Pau Gasol leading the way; Brazil, with NBA player Nene Hilario; and Argentina, boasting Manu Ginobili and Luis Scola.
The FIBA basketball World Cup will take place from August 30th to September 14th in Spain.
How the Games Will Be Played
Basketball at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto will be held from July 21 to 26 at the Ryerson Athletic Centre. There will be two competition pools of four teams each. In the first round, each team will play the other three teams in their pool once in a round-robin format. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the second round where they will again play the teams from their own pool, but the results from the first round will carry over. The third and fourth place teams from each group will play in a classification round to determine fifth through eighth place.
The medals will be awarded based on standings at the end of the second round. If there is a tie for any of the medal positions, then a Playoff Game will be played to determined the medal winners.
