After a long hiatus, Pawtucket Baseball is back and ready for an exciting season! For baseball fans in Rhode Island this is big news. Pawtucket is home to the Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox and the team has a long history dating back to the late 19th century.
This season is especially important for the Pawtucket community. The team was recently sold to new ownership, and there is a lot of excitement surrounding the potential for the team to move to a new stadium in the near future. This season will be a crucial test to see if there is enough fan support to make that happen.

The team to watch This Season
The Pawtucket Red Sox are a Minor League Baseball team located in Pawtucket, Rhode Island The team plays in the National League and is the Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox They play their home games at McCoy Stadium.
The PawSox were founded in 1970 as an Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles and joined the National League in 1973 when it absorbed the governing Eastern League In 1983, they dropped their affiliation with Baltimore and became a Triple-A affiliate of the Montreal Expos for six years (1983–1988). Following the 1988 season, they became affiliated with the Chicago White Sox for four years (1989–1992), after which they became affiliated with their current parent club, the Boston Red Sox (1993–present).
Pawtucket won its first Governors’ Cup championship in 1984, defeating Rochester 3 games to 0 in the final. It repeated as champions in 2012. The team has played in five title games overall (1984, 1986, 2012, 2013, 2014), winning three times. In 2016, it finally succeeded in winning a playoff series on the road after eleven previous attempts dating back to 1925; it defeated Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 3 games to 1 en route to losing to Columbus 4 games to 2 in the Governors’ Cup Finals
New Faces on the Pawtucket Team
The Pawtucket Red Sox the Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox have announced their roster for the upcoming season While there are some familiar faces returning to the team, there are also some new additions that fans will be excited to see.
Among the newcomers are catcher Jett Bandy, who spent last season with the Milwaukee Brewers and infielder Steve Wilkerson, who played last year with the Baltimore Orioles Also joining the team are pitchers Josh Smith and Domingo Tapia, who both spent time in the Major Leagues last season.
Fans will also be happy to see some familiar faces returning to the Pawtucket lineup. Infielder Mike Miller is back for his second season with the team, and he’ll be joined by pitchers Kyle Kendrick and Justin Haley Outfielder Aneury Tavarez will also return to Pawtucket after appearing in 24 games for the Red Sox last season.
The Pawtucket Red Sox will begin their season on April 4th on the road against the Buffalo Bisons. They’ll return home to McCoy Stadium on April 11th to take on the Syracuse Mets.
