Pigeon Forge will again play host to a Major League Baseball tournament in 2022, this time for the 10u age group. Pigeon Forge Mayor David Wilson made the announcement Tuesday at a joint press conference with representatives from Ripken Baseball The event will be held at the brand new $38 million dollars Ripken Experience Pigeon Forge, set to open in May of next year.
The Ripken Experience Pigeon Forge is a 100-acre, multi-plex Baseball Complex that will include six youth fields, four of which are replica Major League stadiums – Fenway Park Wrigley Field and two Shrine Stadiums – as well as an MLB sized synthetic Turf Field and a stadium with a views of the Smoky Mountains.
“This is an exciting day for Pigeon Forge and we’re honored to be selected to host another Major League Baseball tournament,” said Mayor David Wilson. “This just goes to show that our community continues to be a top destination for sports events. We’re looking forward to working with Ripken Baseball again to make this a successful event.”
The four-day tournament is scheduled for June 15-18, 2022 and will feature teams from across the country.

The Pigeon Forge Baseball Tournament is set to return in 2022 with a new format. The four-day tournament will now feature eight teams from across the country competing in a double-elimination style tournament.
The tournament is set to take place from July 5-8, 2022, with games beginning on Wednesday and concluding on Saturday. The first and second rounds of the tournament will be played at principle sponsor Ripken Baseball’s complexes in Aberdeen, Maryland and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
The semifinals and Championship game will be held at Smokies Stadium the home of the Tennessee Smokies minor league baseball team. This will mark the first time that the Smokies have hosted a Baseball Tournament at their state-of-the-art facility.
“We are excited to announce the return of the Pigeon Forge Baseball Tournament in 2022,” said Tournament Director Darryl Hudson. “This event has become one of the premier summer collegiate baseball tournaments in the country, and we are looking forward to once again showcasing some of the best collegiate talent from across the nation.”

They succeeded in their effort and the Tennessee Smokies a minor league affiliate of the Chicago Cubs began play in 1979. The team was an instant success, drawing large crowds to its games at Smokies Stadium.
In the years since, the tournament has become an annual event, drawing teams from all over the country to compete in what has become one of the most prestigious baseball tournaments in the nation. The Pigeon Forge Baseball Tournament will follow standard tournament rules with a few key exceptions. All teams must have a minimum of 12 players and a maximum of 18 players. All players must be 18 years of age or younger as of May 1st of the year the tournament is held.
