This was a hard-fought battle as both teams played their best basketball. Providence took an early lead but South Dakota State quickly came back and took the lead. Providence then went on a 9-0 run to take control of the game. South Dakota State would not give up though and they fought their way back within two points with under a minute to play. However, Providence held on and won the game by two points.

This was a huge win for Providence College as they snapped South Dakota State’s 21-game winning streak. This is also a Big Win because it is against a team that is ranked number 15 in the nation. This is a great start to the season for Providence College and they will look to build on this momentum as the season continues.

The Friars (9-9, 2-2 Big East) held the Jackrabbits (21-3, 10-1 Summit League) to just 32 percent shooting from the field and 24 percent from three-point range Providence also forced 16 turnovers, which led to 18 points.

South Dakota State was led by Mike Daum, who had 21 points and 11 rebounds, but he was just 7-of-21 from the field. David Jenkins Jr. added 17 points for the Jackrabbits.
