The Providence Friars women’s basketball team represents Providence College in NCAA Division I competition. The team is currently a member of the Big East Conference having joined the conference in 1982. The Friars play their home games at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island As of the end of the 2015-16 season, the Friars have an all-time record of 685-595 (.534).

In 2015-16, the Friars finished with a record of 16-16 (.500), and went 6-10 in Big East play to finish in ninth place in the conference. The Friars qualified for the Big East Tournament and defeated Marquette in the first round before losing to eventual tournament champion Connecticut in the quarterfinals.

Providence has made two appearances in the NCAA tournament both times as a #9 seed. In 1989, Providence defeated #8 seed Mississippi State in the first round before losing to #1 seed North Carolina in the second round. In 2001, Providence again won its first round game, this time defeating #8 seed Ohio State before losing to #1 seed Notre Dame in the second round.

-Providence vs. Notre Dame December 3
This will be the first time these two teams have faced off since 2009, when Notre Dame won in a close game Providence will be looking for revenge against a strong Notre Dame team.

-Providence vs. Duke, January 14
Providence will take on Duke at home in what is sure to be a thrilling game. Duke is always a tough opponent, but the Friars have proved they can compete with the best of the best, and this should be a great game to watch.

-Providence vs. Yale, February 8
This will be the first meeting between these two teams in over 30 years. Yale is an Ivy League school and always provides stiff competition, so this will be a game to watch for sure.

Post-game analysis

The Providence Womens Basketball team played their first game of the season against the Boston College Eagles on November 8th. The game ended in a loss for the Friars, with a final score of 67-54. Despite the loss, there were several positive takeaways from the game.

The Friars started the game off slow, but they picked up the pace in the second quarter and only trailed by six points at halftime. In the second half, Providence was able to keep it close, only losing by seven points.

Providence was led by senior Carly Saunders, who scored a team-high 15 points. Saunders shot 50% from three-point range and 100% from the Foul Line Junior Jovana Nogic also had a strong game, scoring 11 points and grabbing eight rebounds.

The Providence Friars have completed their 2019-2020 Season with an overall record of 26-10 and a conference record of 13-5. The team made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before losing to the eventual National Champions the University of Connecticut Huskies.

The Friars started off the season with a Bang, winning their first eight games. Their biggest win during this stretch was against then-ranked No. 9 Michigan State Spartans The game was played at Madison Square Garden as part of the Jimmy V Classic, and the Friars won 71-63.

After a brief two-game losing streak Providence went on another tear, winning nine games in a row. This stretch included wins over ranked opponents Xavier and Seton Hall

Providence then hit another bump in the road, losing four out of five games. This included a loss to conference rival Butler in which they blew a late lead.

The Friars then regained their form and won seven out of their last eight games, with their only loss coming against UConn in the NCAA tournament
