Radford basketball began in 1910 with the school’s first team, which was organized by students. The team played its first game against Virginia Tech on February 22, 1911, losing 34–10. Throughout the early years of the program, the teams were mostly made up of students and faculty members, with little to no money being spent on recruiting players from other schools.
