The RPI womens hockey team began their ascent in the 2013-2014 season. They finished with a record of 22-11-5, good for second place in the ECAC. They made it to the semifinals of the ECAC tournament, where they lost to eventual champion Clarkson.

In the 2014-2015 season, RPI finished 21-12-5, again good for second place in the ECAC. They made it to the semifinals of the ECAC tournament, where they lost to eventual champion Cornell.

In the 2015-2016 season, RPI had their best season yet. They finished 28-7-1, winning their first ever ECAC regular season title. They made it to the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history, where they lost to eventual National Champion Wisconsin.

Head Coach John Burke has been with the team for six years, and he has led them to two conference championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances. Assistant Coach Katey Stone has also been with the team for six years, and she has helped them to a conference championship and two NCAA Tournament appearances.

In just one year, the team turned their whole program around. They improved their record by winning 12 more games and ended up ranked 7th in their conference with a 16-16-4 record.

The reason for this turnaround is due to their amazing Coaching Staff and the junior class that stepped up to leadership roles on the team. One player who made a large impact on the team is goaltender Lovisa Selander. During her career at RPI, she holds program records for most career shutouts(14), most single season shutouts (7) and best save percentage (.937). This past season as a junior, she was named ECAC goaltender of the year, First Team All-ECAC and a top 10 finalist for the Patty Kazmaier award(given to the top Division 1 women’s hockey player).

Another key player for RPI is captain Jaimie Grigsby. As a senior this past season, she was named an Alternate Captain for Team USA at the 2019 IIHF World Championships She is also a two time ECAC all-academic Selection and was named to the 2018 all-ECAC third team. During her time at RPI, she had 73 points which is tied for ninth most in program history. Not only is she an excellent hockey player but she is also very academic driven as she is pursing a degree in biochemistry.
