The Siue Womens basketball team has been on a tear lately, defeating their opponents handily. Here’s a look at their recent string of victories.
Siue Womens Basketball Defeats Opponents
The SIUE women’s Basketball team won both of their games this weekend against their opponents. On Friday, they defeated Eastern Illinois with a score of 70-60 and on Sunday, they won against UT Martin with a score of 73-64. This brings their record to 15-4 for the season and 9-1 in conference play
Leading the team in scoring against Eastern Illinois was junior Josie Wuensch with 23 points. For UT Martin, senior Myriah Nesbitt led the team in scoring with 21 points. This was her fourth game this season where she has scored 20 or more points.
The team’s next game is on the road against Murray State on Thursday, February 6th at 5:30 p.m.
Siue Womens Basketball Defeats Memphis
The Siue Womens basketball team defeated Memphis on Saturday with a final score of 60-52. This victory gives the team a record of 15-4 overall and 7-1 in conference play
Siue Womens Basketball Defeats Tennessee
The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women’s Basketball team improved to 2-0 on the young season with a hard-fought 66-61 victory over the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on Sunday afternoon in the Vadalabene Center.
It was a back-and-forth affair early on, as neither team was able to gain much of an advantage. The Cougars took a slim 26-25 lead into the half, but the Mocs came out hot in the third quarter and took a 42-40 lead into the final frame.
SIUE Head Coach Paula Buscher made some adjustments during the break, and her team responded with a strong fourth quarter The Cougars outscored UTC 26-19 in the final period to secure the victory.
Junior center Rishonda Napier led SIUE with 18 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore point guard Shronda Butts added 12 points and six assists. Freshman forward Hannah Coder also chipped in with 11 points off the bench.
Siue Mens Basketball Defeats Louisville
The Siue Womens basketball team defeated Louisville on Saturday with a score of 72-64. This is the second victory for the Siue Womens basketball team this season. The team is now 2-0 and will continue their season next Saturday against Vanderbilt.
Siue Mens Basketball Defeats Kentucky
The SIUE women’s basketball team picked up a Big Win on Sunday, defeating Kentucky 73-64. The win was a big one for the team, as it moved them to 2-0 on the season.
The game was close throughout, with neither team leading by more than six points. Kentucky held a slim lead for much of the first half, but Siue slowly chipped away and took a 33-32 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Siue began to pull away, extending their lead to nine points midway through the third quarter. Kentucky tried to fight back, but Siue held on for the win.
The victory was led by Senior Jasmine Canfield, who had 19 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Myriah Nix also had a strong game, scoring 18 points.
Siue Mens Basketball Defeats Duke
Under the leadership of head coach Nikki Fargas the Siue Womens basketball team defeated Duke University with a final score of 73-72. The game was held at Duke Universitys Cameron Indoor Stadium on December 3, 2019. This is a significant victory for the team, as Duke is a highly ranked opponent.
Siue Mens Basketball Defeats North Carolina
The Siue women’s Basketball team captured its first win of the season, upsetting North Carolina A&T 73-59 in front of a crowd of 1,032 at the Vadalabene center. The win ended a four-game losing streak for the Lady Cougars who improved to 1-4 on the young season.
Siue Mens Basketball Defeats South Carolina
The SIUE women’s Basketball Team picked up a Big Win against South Carolina on Saturday, defeating the Gamecocks 64-58.
The victory was acomplete team effort, with four different players scoring in double figures. Freshman Myriah Noodle led the way with 16 points, while junior Abby Brockhausen added 15 points and senior Sammie Ebersold scored 12 points.
The win improves SIUE’s record to 11-4 on the season and gives them a big boost heading into conference play.
Siue Womens Basketball Defeats Georgia
The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women’s Basketball team scored a 67-63 victory over Georgia State on Sunday afternoon in the GSU Sports Arena.
The game started off back and forth, with the Cougars and Panthers trading baskets. The Cougars took the lead for good with five minutes left in the first quarter on a layup by freshman Myriah Noodel-Haywood.
The lead changed hands several times in the second quarter, but the Cougars found themselves up 32-29 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Siue extended its lead to as many as nine points, but Georgia State answered back and cut it to one point, 49-48, going into the final period.
In the fourth quarter Siue held off a late charge by the Panthers to seal the victory.
The Cougars were led in scoring by junior Brea Edwards with 18 points. Noodel-Haywood added 16 points and eight rebounds, while senior Sydney Bauman tallied 12 points and eight boards. Junior Micah Jones dished out a team-high seven assists.
Siue Mens Basketball Defeats Florida
The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women’s Basketball team defeated the University of Florida 72-69 on Sunday, December 30 in the Championship game of the Cougar Classic at the Vadalabene Center.
This was the first time in school history that SIUE has won a postseason Tournament Championship
Junior guard Rachel Valdez led the Cougars and all scorers with 23 points. Valdez also had four steals. Sophomore forward Jabria Ingram added 17 points and eight rebounds while shooting 80 percent from the field and dished out four assists.
