Sonoma State Baseball Roster: The Must-Have Players

The Sonoma State baseball team is gearing up for another great season and we’ve got the scoop on who to keep an eye on. Here’s our list of the Must-Have Players on the roster.

Sonoma State University is a public institution in Rohnert Park, California. The school’s Baseball Team is a Division II program that competes in the California Collegiate Athletic Association

Roster

The Sonoma State baseball team has announced its roster for the upcoming season The team will feature several new players, as well as some familiar faces. Here are the must-have players on the roster:

Pitcher Matt Barnes is a junior who has been with the team for two years. He is a left-handed pitcher who has a strong arm and good control. He is expected to be one of the team’s top pitchers this season.

Catcher Jake Jeffries is a senior who has been with the team for four years. He is a good hitter with a strong arm. He will be one of the team’s leaders this season.

Infielder Joey Wong is a sophomore who has been with the team for two years. He is a good hitter and fielder. He is expected to be one of the team’s top infielders this season.

Outfielder Alexei Ramirez is a sophomore who has been with the team for two years. He is a good hitter and fielder. He is expected to be one of the team’s top outfielders this season.

The Must-Have Players

Sonoma State University’s baseball team has seen a lot of success in recent years They have won 3 consecutive conference championships and made it to the NCAA Division II World Series in 2017. The team is looking to continue their success in 2018 and they will need these 10 players to do it.

Zachary Torres- 1B/OF
Torres is a senior who has been a key player for the Seawolves since he arrived on campus. He is a tough out who hits for a high average and has plenty of power. He was named First Team All-Conference last year and is expected to be one of the best hitters in the conference again this season.

Dylan Steyer- RHP
Steyer is a junior who transferred to Sonoma State from UC Santa Barbara last season. He immediately became the Seawolves’ ace and was one of the best pitchers in the conference. He has a fastball that reaches up to 95 mph and he also has two other plus pitches. He was named First Team All-Conference last year and will be one of the best pitchers in the conference again this season.

Gavin Tomlinson- RHP
Tomlinson is a senior who has been a key player out of the bullpen for the Seawolves for the past few years. He pitches with a lot of passion and he always comes up big in pressure situations. He was named Second Team All-Conference last year and will be one of the best Relief pitchers in the conference again this season.

Jacob Nicholson- C
Nicholson is a junior who transferred to Sonoma State from UC Berkeley last season. He immediately became the Seawolves’ starting catcher and was one of the best defensive catchers in the conference. He also hit very well last season and he is expected to be one of the best offensive catchers in the conference this season.

Will Dunne- OF
Dunne is a senior who has been a key player for the Seawolves since he arrived on campus four years ago. He hits for a high average and he also has plenty of power. He is an outstanding defender in center field and he will be one of the best all-around players in the conference this season.

The Pitching Staff

Sonoma State University’s Baseball Team is off to a great start this season, and it’s all thanks to the amazing pitching staff. Here are the five pitchers you need to keep an eye on this season:

1. Andrew Alvarado: Alvarado is a senior pitcher who has been with the team since 2016. He is a right-handed pitcher who throws a fastball, curveball, and changeup. Alvarado is currently 3-0 with a 0.90 ERA.

2. Brandon Flores: Flores is a junior pitcher who joined the team in 2017. He is a right-handed pitcher who throws a fastball and changeup. Flores is currently 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA.

3. Dylan Riddle: Riddle is a sophomore pitcher who joined the team in 2018. He is a left-handed pitcher who throws a fastball, curveball, and changeup. Riddle is currently 2-0 with 0.69 ERA.

4. Jake Wong: Wong is a freshman pitcher who joined the team in 2019 . He is right-handed and throws entirely fastballs . Wong is currently 1-0 with 1 . 13 ERA .
5 . Kenny Rosenberg: Rosenberg pitches for Sonoma State regularly as well , but he did not join the team until 2018 . Rosenberg combines experience with youth , as he already has three years of minor League Baseball under his belt . The southpaw specializes in pitches that move unexpectedly , like his signature “crooked ball” . Although Rosenberg’s numbers don’t quite reflect it yet , he has potential to be one of the best relievers in college baseball .

The Infield

The infield is one of the most important parts of the Baseball team It is where the majority of the action takes place and where the game can be won or lost. The infielders are responsible for stopping the opposing team from getting hits and scoring runs. They also have to be able to make quick decisions and have good coordination.

There are four positions in the infield: first base, second base, third base, and shortstop. Each position has its own set of responsibilities. The first baseman is responsible for stopping balls that are hit to their area of the field. They also have to be able to catch balls that are thrown to them. The second baseman is responsible for stopping balls that are hit between first and second base. They also have to be able to turn double plays. The third baseman is responsible for stopping balls that are hit between second and third base. They also have to be able to throw out runners who are trying to steal bases. The shortstop is responsible for stopping balls that are hit between third base and home plate They also have to be able to throw out runners who are trying

The Outfield

The outfield is one of the most important positions in baseball. A good outfield can make or break a team. Here are the must-have players on any good baseball team

Center Field:
The center fielder is the captain of the outfield. They are responsible for organizing the other outfielders and making sure they are in the right position. They need to be able to communicate well and have a good understanding of the game.

Right Field:
Right field is often considered the power position. The right fielder needs to have a strong arm to be able to throw runners out at first base. They also need to be able to hit for power to drive in runs.

Left Field:
left field is often considered the thinking man’s position. The Left fielder needs to have a good understanding of the game and be able to make quick decisions. They also need to be able to hit for average and get on base for the other hitters.

The Catchers

Players:

Collin Drucker is a junior from Mill Valley, California. He bats and throws right-handed and is tall with an athletic build. While he didn’t play much his freshman year, he worked hard to improve his game and became one of the team’s best hitters. His sophomore year he had a batting average of .333 with four home runs and 22 RBIs. He was named to the All-CCAA second team as a catcher.

Thomas Hassett is a senior from Santa Rosa, California. He bats left-handed and throws right-handed. Hassett has been a starter for all four years of his college career and is the team captain As a junior, he had a batting average of .262 with six home runs and 32 RBIs. In addition to being a good hitter, he’s also an excellent defensive catcher with a strong arm.

Alec Ritchard is a sophomore from Novato, California. He bats and throws right-handed and has good speed for a catcher. Ritchard saw limited action as a freshman but played well when he was in the game. This past season as a sophomore, he hit .294 with one home run and 16 RBIs while splitting time behind the plate with Hassett.

Ryan Scola is a redshirt junior from San Rafael, California. Scola bats left-handed and throws right-handed. He missed all of last season due to injury but was the starting catcher as a sophomore when he hit .333 with two home runs and 30 RBIs. Scola is also an excellent student who has been named to the CCAA All-Academic team three times.

The Designated Hitters

The designated hitter is perhaps the most important position on a baseball team They are the player who is responsible for Hitting the ball and driving in runs. Without a good designated hitter a team is simply not going to score enough runs to win.

There are a few things to look for when choosing a designated hitter First, they need to be a good hitter. This seems obvious, but it’s really important. A good hitter is someone who can consistently make contact with the ball and hit it hard. They should also have a good eye, so they can take pitches that are close to the strike zone and drive them into gaps for extra base hits.

Second, a Designated Hitter needs to be someone who is not afraid to take risks. They need to be aggressive at the plate, because that’s how they’re going to drive in runs. They should be willing to swing at bad pitches, because sometimes those are the ones that end up being hits. And they should be willing to steal bases when the opportunity arises.

Third, a designated hitter needs to have some power. They don’t need to be a power hitter, but they should be able to hit the ball over the fence on occasion. This will keep opposing pitchers from challenging them too much, and it will make them more likely to drive in runs when they do make contact with the ball.

Finally, a designated hitter needs to be someone who is durable. They need to be able to play every day, because that’s how they’re going to help their team win games. If they’re constantly getting injured or taking days off, then they’re not going to be much help to their team over the course of a long season.

The Utility Players

There are a few key utility players that every Sonoma State baseball roster should have. These are the players that can fill in wherever needed and make an impact on the game. Here are the must-have utility players for your Sonoma State baseball roster

Pitcher/Utility Infielder: This is the player that can come in and pitch if needed, but can also play any infield position. This player needs to be versatile and have a strong arm.

Outfielder/Utility Infielder: This is the player that can play any outfield position as well as any infield position. This player needs to have a strong arm and be able to hit for power.

Infielder/Catcher: This is the player that can play any infield position as well as catcher. This player needs to be versatile and have good leadership qualities.

The Coaching Staff

The Sonoma State Baseball Coaching Staff is committed to helping each student-athlete reach his full potential, both on and off the field. The staff includes Head Coach John Goelz, who has over 30 years of experience coaching baseball at the collegiate level; assistant coaches Matt Murray and Mike Taylor; and volunteer Assistant Coach Kevin Friedl.

Coach Goelz has led the team to numerous conference championships and NCAA Division II College World Series appearances, including a National Championship in 2001. He is a two-time recipient of the ABCA/Diamond Sports National Coach of the Year Award and was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2012.

Assistant coach Matt Murray specializes in pitching instruction and also serves as the team’s recruiting coordinator. Coach Murray helped lead the team to a conference championship and an NCAA Division II World Series appearance in his first season with the program.

Assistant Coach Mike Taylor focuses on hitting instruction and outfield play. He also serves as Sonoma State’s strength & Conditioning Coach Under his tutelage, the Seawolves have produced some of the best hitters in program history, including four All-Americans.

Kevin Friedl enters his first season as a member of the coaching staff after an outstanding career as a player at Sonoma State. He will work with infielders and hitters while also serving as the team’s director of operations.
