Get to Know the Texas Tech Lady Raiders Basketball Players

The Texas Tech Lady Raiders basketball team is full of talented and hardworking athletes. Get to know some of the players on the team and learn about their impressive accomplishments.

Introduction

The Texas Tech Lady Raiders Basketball team represents Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. The Lady Raiders compete in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) and the Big 12 Conference. The team plays its home games at United Supermarkets Arena.

The Lady Raiders are currently coached by Marlene Stollings, who was hired on April 11, 2018. Stollings replaced Candice Wiggins as the Head Coach after Wiggins resigned following the 2017-18 Season

As of the end of the 2019-20 season the Lady Raiders have an all-time record of 851-406 (.677). They have made 28 appearances in the NCAA tournament with their most recent appearance coming in 2019. They have also made one appearance in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT), in 2009.

The Lady Raiders have had four head coaches in their history: Sadie Simpson (1974-1977), Nancy Darsch (1977-1981), Marsha Sharp (1981-2006), and Candice Wiggins (2006-2018).

Kayla Reyes

Kayla Reyes is a 5’9” guard from Albuquerque, New Mexico. She commits to the Lady Raiders after a successful High School career in which she was named to the All-State team. Prior to her senior season, Reyes was rated as a four-star prospect by ESPN Hoopgurlz

Brittany Brewer

Brittany Brewer is a 6-foot-3 center from Abilene, Texas. She attended Abilene high school where she was a four-year starter and helped lead her team to the state playoffs three times. As a senior, she averaged 18 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots per game. She was named Most Valuable Player of her district and was an honorable mention all-state selection.

Brewer played in all 33 games as a freshman at Texas Tech averaging 3.1 points and 2.1 rebounds per game She scored a season-high 12 points against TCU and had eight rebounds against Iowa State As a sophomore, she played in 29 games and averaged 4.4 points and 2.9 rebounds per game She scored in double figures four times, including a season-high 13 points against Kansas State As a junior, she played in all 30 games and averaged 8.2 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. She scored in double figures 12 times, including a season-high 20 points against TCU.

Chrislyn Carr

Chrislyn Carr is a 5’9” guard from Dallas, Texas. She is a freshman at Texas Tech University and plays for the Lady Raiders basketball team Chrislyn is a versatile player who can play either guard position. She is a good shooter and has the ability to drive to the basket. Chrislyn is also a good rebounder for her size.

Lexi Gordon

The 6-foot Gordon hails from San Antonio Texas and is in her junior season with the Lady Raiders. As a freshman, she was named to the All-Big 12 Freshman Team after averaging 9.6 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. She followed that up with a sophomore season in which she averaged 11.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per game while shooting 41 percent from three-point range

Khyla Wade-Lawson

Khyla Wade-Lawson is a 6-foot-1-inch tall shooting guard from Manassas, Virginia. Wade-Lawson is currently in her junior year and is averaging 7.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game

Trinity Oliver

Trinity Oliver is a 6’2” junior forward from Sachse, Texas. She is currently in her third season playing for the Lady Raiders. In her first two seasons, Oliver has been a key contributor off the bench, averaging 5.5 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. This season, she is expected to see an increased role as a starter.

Oliver is a versatile player who can score inside and out. Her best asset is her rebounding, as she is one of the best rebounders on the team. She is also a very good shot blocker, averaging 1.5 blocks per game last season.

Off the court, Oliver is a very outgoing person and is very involved in community service. She is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and volunteers with various organizations such as Special Olympics and Meals on Wheels.

Micaela Perez

Micaela “Mickey” Perez was born on December 8, 1995, in San Antonio Texas. The 5’6″ point guard comes from a military family and is the youngest of four sisters. Perez attended Ronald Reagan high school in San Antonio where she was a three-year starter and helped lead the team to two district championships. Perez was named first-team all-district and second-team all-area as a senior.

Perez joined the Lady Raiders Basketball team in 2014. She has played in 92 games during her career at Texas Tech starting 21 of them. Perez is averaging 7.4 points per game and 2.1 assists per game during her time at Tech. She scored a career-high 21 points against Stephen F. Austin on December 2, 2016.

Erin DeGrate

Erin DeGrate is a 6’4″ sophomore center from Mansfield, Texas. She is the daughter of former NBA player Martin Muursepp and played her freshman season at Miami Dade College. DeGrate transferred to Texas Tech for her sophomore season and is eligible to play immediately.
