The Athletic Nba 75 – The Best of the Best

The Athletic NBA 75 – The Best of the Best is a comprehensive list of the top 75 NBA players of all time. This list was compiled by The Athletic’s NBA writers and editors, and it includes some of the greatest players to ever step on the court.

The best players in the NBA

The Athletic NBA 75 is our annual ranking of the best players in the NBA. This is our seventh edition of the list.

To create the list, we asked our NBA writers and editors to vote on the top 75 players in the league. We weighed a variety of factors, including career achievement, individual and team success, statistical production and overall impact on the game. In cases of close votes, we gave preference to players who are younger or who we believe have a higher ceiling. We also took into account advanced metrics where applicable.

The list includes both veterans and young stars who are just beginning to make their mark on the league. It features superstars like Lebron James and Stephen Curry as well as up-and-comers like Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokounmpo

We hope you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed putting it together.

The best teams in the NBA

The Athletic NBA 75 is our annual ranking of the best teams in the NBA. We take into account on-court success, roster construction, asset management and sustainability, and this year’s list includes a mix of championship contenders, playoff teams and rebuilding squads.

The best moments in the NBA

The Athletic NBA 75 – The Best of the Best is a list of the best moments in the NBA, as voted on by a panel of experts. The panel includes former players, coaches, executives and media members.

The list includes moments from all eras of the NBA, including the early years, the golden age of basketball, the modern ERA and more. It includes moments from regular season games, Playoff Games and even exhibitions.

Some of the moments on the list are individual performances, while others are team accomplishments. Some of them are well-known, while others are more obscure. But all of them are considered to be among the best of the best in NBA history

The best players of all time

In honor of The Athletic’s 75th anniversary, we asked 75 of our NBA experts — Insiders, reporters and columnists — to answer the question: Who are the 75 best players in NBA history? From Michael Jordan to Lebron James to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and beyond, we’ve got you covered. (And if you want even more top-75 lists, be sure to check out our NFL, MLB and college basketball lists, too.)

The best teams of all time

In celebration of the NBA’s 75th anniversary, The Athletic has assembled a panel of 38 basketball experts to determine the 75 best teams in league history.

The criteria for inclusion were simple: How good was this team? How dominant were they? How memorable were they? How important were they to the history of the sport?

This is NOT a list of the 75 most successful teams, nor is it merely a collection of the most talented rosters. It’s a composite of greatness, impact and inspiration.

These are the teams that made us fall in love with basketball.

The best moments of all time

From Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point game to Magic Johnson’s rookie season, these are the most memorable moments in NBA history

The best players in the NBA today

The Athletic’s NBA 75 is a project meant to identify the best players in the NBA today This is not a list of the 75 best players of all time. It is a list of the 75 best players in the NBA right now.

To put together this ranking, we polled 50 NBA experts from around the country — broadcasters, beat writers, columnists, podcast hosts and former players and executives — and asked them to rate the league’s best players on a scale of 1-10. TheScore also had a vote. Players were judged on their overall value to their teams regardless of position.

A few things to keep in mind:
– All-Stars are not necessarily top-75 players. We’ve found that over the past few seasons, All-Star voting has become increasingly popularity based rather than merit based. So while some popular players who have made multiple All-Star teams are certainly included on this list, others who have been snubbed in recent years are ranked ahead of them.
– We did not include rookies or second-year players on this list because it’s difficult to judge them against established veterans.
– We did not include injured players because it’s impossible to know when/if they will return to form.

Without further ado, here are The Athletic’s top 75 NBA players heading into the 2019-20 season

1. Giannis Antetokounmpo Milwaukee Bucks
2. Kawhi Leonard Los Angeles Clippers
3. Anthony Davis Los Angeles Lakers
4. James Harden Houston Rockets
5 Rudy Gobert Utah Jazz

We then averaged those ratings to come up with our final ranking. The results are below, and you can find more details and analysis in our full report.

The best players in the NBA tomorrow

The Athletic NBA 75 is our annual ranking of the best players in the NBA. We’re counting down the list one player at a time, from No. 75 to No. 1, as voted on by our NBA staff.

We asked our writers and editors, who cover the league daily, to vote for the best players at each position: point guard shooting guard small forward Power Forward and center. We also asked them to vote for the best coach, executive and rookie.

The players were ranked on a 100-point scale, with 100 points awarded for a first-place vote, 99 points for a second-place vote and so on. The full list of voters can be found here.

The Athletic NBA 75 will be released over the course of two weeks leading up to training camp in October. This year’s countdown will look a little different than in years past because of the pandemic-shortened season but we think it will still give you plenty to chew on as we head into what promises to be an unprecedented campaign.
