The Weekend: Modern Baseball
The origins of baseball can be traced back to the 18th century, but the game we know today is thought to have first been played in the early 19th century. It has since become one of America’s favorite pastimes. Modern baseball has its roots in two British games: rounders and cricket. Rounders was brought to North America by British and Irish immigrants, while cricket was brought by British colonists. The first recorded Game of Baseball was played in Hoboken, New Jersey, in 1846. The game gradually gained popularity, and by the late 1800s, it had become a professional sport with its own distinct rules and traditions.
