Baseball has been a part of the University of Minnesota since the late 1800s. The first recorded game played by a Minnesota baseball team was in 1883, against Hamline University Since then, the University of Minnesota’s baseball team has gone through many changes.

The team has seen success throughout its history. In 1904, the team won the Western Conference championship. In 1910, the team won the Intercollegiate Association championship. In 1924, the team won the Big Ten Conference championship. The team has also made several appearances in the NCAA tournament including two trips to the College World Series in 1956 and 1960.

Over the years, many Great players have donned a Gopher uniform. Phil Niekro, Kevin Tapani, and paul molitor are all former Minnesota baseball players who went on to have successful Major League careers. Five former Gophers have been inducted into the college baseball Hall of Fame Frank Baumer, Dave Winfield Kent Hrbek, Jack Morris and Jerry Kindall.

The team is led by Head Coach John Anderson, who is in his 37th season with the program. The Golden Gophers play their home games at Siebert Field, which has a capacity of 3,000 fans.

The majority of the team’s players are from the state of Minnesota, with 19 out of the 28 roster spots accounted for by in-state athletes. The team’s pitching staff is particularly strong, with 7 pitchers having already been drafted by Major League Baseball teams. Some of the team’s notable alumni include Hall-of-Famer Paul Molitor andcurrent Major Leaguer Glen Perkins.
