One record that has stood for UCLA baseball for quite some time is the most strikeouts in a season. That record is currently held by Gerrit Cole, who struck out 158 batters in 2011. However, that record could be in jeopardy as two current Bruins pitchers are making a strong case to break it.

Sophomore right-hander Griffin Canning currently leads the team with 115 strikeouts, while junior left-hander Lauren Meyers isn’t far behind with 113. If both pitchers can keep up their current pace, they could combine to break Cole’s single-season record.

While strikeouts are impressive, they don’t tell the whole story when it comes to pitching. Meyers has been stellar this season as he sports a 2.49 ERA and a 10-3 record, while Canning has a 3.48 ERA and an 8-5 record. Both pitchers have been key members of the Bruins’ rotation this season and will look to lead the team deep into the postseason once again.
