Founded in 1795, Union College is a private liberal arts college located in Schenectady, New York. The school is best known for its top-ranked engineering program and outstanding Hockey Team Union College has a long tradition of excellence in hockey, dating back to the early days of the sport. The History of Union College Hockey
Union college hockey has a long and storied history dating back to the late 1800s. The origins of Union college hockey date back to 1891, when a group of students formed the Union College Athletic Association The first official game was played against RPI in 1892, which Union won 2-0. The two teams quickly became bitter rivals, playing each other multiple times per season.
Union won its first National Championship in 1899, defeating Harvard University in the final game The program would go on to win several more titles in the early 1900s. In 1930, Union joined the newly formed Eastern Intercollegiate Hockey League (EIHL), which it would compete in for nearly 50 years. During this time period, Union won several league championships and made numerous appearances in the NCAA tournament
In 1981, Union left the EIHL to join the newly formed Ecac Hockey conference. The move proved to be successful, as Union won the conference championship in its first year in the league. The program has been extremely successful since joining ECAC Hockey winning multiple conference championships and making regular appearances in the NCAA Tournament
Currently, Union is one of the most successful programs in college hockey The team has won two national championships (in 2014 and 2016), four conference championships (in 2009, 2010, 2012, and 2013), and has made eleven NCAA tournament appearances overall.Union is also known for its strong tradition of producing NHL Players over 60 former Union players have gone on to play in the NHL, including All-Stars Ryan Miller and Shayne Gostisbehere.
