USC Upstate Men’s Basketball Defeats Wofford

The USC Upstate men’s basketball team defeated Wofford on Tuesday night, improving their record to 5-1 on the season. The Spartans were led by junior guard Mike Cunningham, who scored 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting. USC Upstate will look to continue their winning ways when they take on Furman on Saturday.

USC Upstate was led by junior guard Mike Cunningham, who scored a career-high 25 points. The Spartans next game is on Tuesday night against Furman.

The USC Upstate men’s Basketball team defeated Wofford 72-64 on the road Wednesday night to improve to 13-4 overall and 3-1 in the Southern Conference

The Spartans were led by Mike Cunningham, who scored 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting, including 4-of-8 from 3-point range, to go along with eight rebounds, four assists and three steals. Spartan guard Jure Span also had a big night, scoring 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range, to go along with five rebounds and three assists.

USC Upstate never trailed in the game and led by as many as 15 points in the second half before Wofford made a late run to cut the lead to four with just over a minute remaining. The Spartans were able to hold on for the win, however, thanks to some clutch free throw shooting down the stretch.

The victory was USC Upstate’s second straight over Wofford and third in the last four meetings between the two teams. With the win, USC Upstate improves to 5-2 all-time against Wofford.

The Spartans will be back in action on Saturday when they host UNC Greensboro at 4:00 p.m. at the G.B. Hodge Center.

The Spartans were led by senior guard Mike Groselle who scored a game-high 26 points on 11-of-19 shooting and pulled down eight rebounds. He also dished out four assists and blocked two shots in the victory.

Redshirt freshman forward Ramel Thompkins recorded his first double-double of the season as he tallied 12 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 5-of-8 from the field, while junior guard Jure Span added 12 points, four boards and two assists in the win.
