Vanderbilt Radio to Broadcast All Baseball Games

The Vanderbilt radio network will broadcast all 55 Commodore baseball games this season, it was announced Monday. It marks the first time in history that every contest will be aired on radio.

Vanderbilt’s flagship station, WLAC 1510-AM in Nashville, will air 50 games, while WMVL 101.3-FM in Lebanon will air five. Calling the action for the Commodores will be Joe Fisher, who is entering his 13th season as “The Voice of the Commodores.”

All games can also be heard on the VUCommodores app and vanderbilt.com.

How to Listen to Vanderbilt Radio Broadcasts

Commodore fans can listen to every broadcast of Vanderbilt Baseball this season on the Commodore Radio Network. Coverage will begin 15 minutes prior to first pitch for all home games at Hawkins Field and all SEC road games.

All games will be broadcast on WLAC 1510 AM in Nashville, with Vanderbilt Hall of Famer Joe Fisher providing play-by-play. Tim Thompson, who also serves as the radio voice for Vanderbilt women’s basketball, will provide color commentary.

In addition to WLAC, four other Middle Tennessee radio affiliates will carry Vanderbilt Baseball broadcasts in 2019. Those stations are: WNSR 560 AM and 95.9 FM in Nashville; WMOT 89.5 FM in Murfreesboro; WRQQ 97.1 FM in Franklin; and WWTN 99.7 FM in Brentwood/Nashville

You’ll hear a lot of familiar voices if you tune in to the radio broadcast of a Vanderbilt baseball game

play-by-play announcer Joe Fisher and color commentators Tim Corbin Wes Durham, and Jared Foster will be in the booth for every game.

Fisher is entering his 13th season as the voice of Vanderbilt baseball and is joined by play-by-play announcer for Vanderbilt Football, Wes Durham.

Tim Corbin is the Head Coach of Vanderbilt Baseball He’s been with the team since 2003, leading them to two College World Series Championships in 2014 and 2019.

Jared Foster played shortstop for Vanderbilt from 2014-2017 and helped lead the team to their first College World Series Championship in 2014.

Joe Fisher is the play-by-play broadcaster for Vanderbilt Baseball He is in his fourteenth season calling Commodore baseball and has served as the voice of the Commodores on the Vanderbilt ISC Sports Network since 2007.

In addition to his duties as the play-by-play broadcaster, Fisher also serves as a game analyst on select radio broadcasts and as a studio host for all football and basketball broadcasts on the Vanderbilt sports radio Network.

Fisher is a native of Nashville, Tennessee and a graduate of Vanderbilt University

Joe Fisher: The Man Behind the Microphone

Joe Fisher has been the Voice of the Vanderbilt Commodores for more than two decades. He began his career as a sports broadcaster in Nashville, Tennessee, and has been calling Vanderbilt baseball games since 1995.

Fisher is a four-time winner of the Tennessee Sportscaster of the Year Award and he was inducted into the Vanderbilt Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014. He is also a member of the Nashville Sports Hall of Fame

In addition to his broadcast duties, Fisher is also the radio play-by-play announcer for the Music City Miracles, an AAU basketball team based in Nashville.

From the Press Box to Your Radio: How Vanderbilt Radio Broadcasts are Produced

It takes a lot of work to bring the excitement of Vanderbilt baseball games to radio listeners across the country. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how our broadcasts are produced.

Our broadcast team starts by setting up in the press box at Vanderbilt Stadium. We have a view of the field from up here, and we’re surrounded by monitors that keep us up to date on what’s happening in the game.

We’re also surrounded by cameras that give us a close-up view of the action on the field. These cameras are operated by a team of student workers, who make sure that we see all the important plays.

Once the game starts, our announcers call the play-by-play while our student workers keep track of the score and other important information. This information is passed on to our listeners through a process called ‘playback.’

We use a variety of software programs to create our broadcast, including Adobe Audition for playback and Skype for interviews with coaches and players. Our broadcasts are sent out over the internet, so anyone in the world can listen in!

Joe is in his sixth season as the “Voice of the Commodores.” He has also served as a color analyst for ESPNU’s college baseball coverage and as a play-by-play broadcaster for the Nashville Sounds.

Color Analyst: Tim Corbin
In his 16th season as Vanderbilt’s head coach Tim has led the Commodores to five College World Series appearances, including a National Championship in 2014. He has been named SEC Coach of the Year three times.

Field Reporter: David Price
A former Commodore and first overall pick in the 2007 MLB Draft David went on to win the 2012 American League Cy Young Award and is a three-time All-Star. He currently plays for the Boston Red Sox

1) How excited are you for the start of another Vanderbilt baseball season?
I’m very excited for the start of another Vanderbilt baseball season It’s always exciting to get back to calling games and getting to know a new team and new players.

2) What are your thoughts on the team so far?
I think the team looks great so far. They have a lot of talent and I think they’re going to surprise a lot of people this year.

3) Who are some players that you’re especially excited to watch this season?
I’m really looking forward to watching Vanderbilt shortstop Ethan Paul this season. He’s a very talented player and I think he’s going to have a big year for the Commodores.

4) What do you think is going to be the key to success for Vanderbilt this season?
I think pitching is going to be key for Vanderbilt this year. They have a lot of good arms on their staff and if they can stay healthy, I think they’ll be in good shape.

5) What are your predictions for the team’s record this season?
I predict that Vanderbilt will have a very successful season and I think they’ll finish with a record above .500.

6) What would you consider to be a Successful Season for Vanderbilt?

I would consider it a successful season if Vanderbilt makes it to the NCAA tournament and has a chance to compete for a National Championship
7) How do you feel about broadcasting all 54 regular season games this year?

I’m thrilled that we’ll be able to broadcast all 54 Regular Season games this year. It’s a great opportunity for Vanderbilt fans to follow their team all season long

8) What do you think is the biggest benefit of having all games broadcast on radio?

I think the biggest benefit of having all games broadcast on radio is that fans can follow their team no matter where they are. Whether they’re at home or away, they can always tune in and catch every game.

9) What do you want listeners to know about you?

I want listeners to know that I’m passionate about college baseball and about broadcasting games. I love what I do and I try to bring that enthusiasm to every game that I call.

10) Is there anything else you’d like listeners to know?

I just want listeners to know that they can always count on me to give them an honest assessment of what’s happening on the field. My goal is always to provide fair and unbiased coverage of Vanderbilt baseball
