Eastern Conference
The Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA) is one of two conferences in the NBA. It comprises 15 teams, organized in three divisions.
The conference’s three divisions are the Atlantic Division, the Central Division, and the Southeast Division. At the end of each regular season, the top eight teams in the conference playoff for sectional and divisional championships. The final round of playoffs also determines the conference champion and overall top team in the NBA.
As of 2019, the Boston Celtics are currently holding the record for most conference titles with 21 total wins. The Los Angeles Lakers have won the second most titles with 17 wins, while the Chicago Bulls have won 16 times.
Western Conference
The Western Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA) is one of two conferences that makes up the league, the other being the Eastern Conference. Like the Eastern Conference, the Western Conference is made up of 15 teams, organized in three divisions.
The divisional alignment was adopted at the start of the 2004-05 season when the now Charlotte Hornets began playing as the New Orleans Pelicans. As a result, conference play and scheduling was unbalanced for a couple of seasons until all 30 teams were in their current divisional alignment by 2012.
The current divisional alignment has each division having 5 teams with two divisions in each conference having 3 division winners and 5 wild card teams. The three division winners and the team with the best record among the remaining non-division winners (the “wild card” team with the best record) receive playoff berths. These 8 teams are seeded according to their regular-season records.
What games to watch tomorrow
The Warriors take on the Pelicans tomorrow in what should be an exciting game. The Warriors are coming off a loss to the Lakers, so they will be looking to bounce back. The Pelicans are coming off a big win against the Rockets, so they will be looking to keep the momentum going.
Eastern Conference
The Boston Celtics are currently in the lead for the Eastern Conference, with a record of 58-22. They are followed by the Toronto Raptors, who are 56-24. The Philadelphia 76ers round out the top three, with a record of 52-30.
Western Conference
The Western Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA) is one of two conferences that makes up the association, the other being the Eastern Conference. Like the Eastern Conference, the Western Conference is made up of 15 teams, organized in three divisions.
The divisional alignment began in 2004, when the now Charlotte Hornets began playing as the New Orleans Pelicans, and as a result of realignment were placed in the newly created Southwest Division. At that time, divisional realignment reverted the Silver Lake area teams into the Pacific Division. As a result of the 2014 relocation of the franchise formerly known as the New Orleans Pelicans to become today’s Pelicans, Louisiana is currently represented in both conferences by franchises based in-state; this is also currently true for Tennessee with both Memphis Grizzlies and Nashville Predators playing in separate conferences (although within different professional sporting leagues).
