Introduction

In Washington State the WIAA is the Girls Basketball organization that determines which schools will compete in the State Tournament The tournament is single elimination, meaning that once a team loses, they are out of the tournament. The top 32 teams in the state are placed into the bracket based on their W-L record and Strength of Schedule From there, seeding is determined by a point system with weight given to wins and losses against common opponents. There are many strong teams in contention for the title this year, but a few stand out as particularly likely contenders. The Waukesha North Stars are undefeated so far this season and are ranked first in the state. They are followed closely by the Beaver Dam Golden Beavers, who only have one loss on their record. Other teams to keep an eye on include the Appleton North Lightning, who have been consistently strong all season, and the Sun Prairie Cardinales, who have been surprise contenders after a slow start to their season.

With so many strong teams in the mix, predicting a winner for this year’s WIAA Girls Basketball Tournament is no easy task. But one thing is for sure – it’s going to be an exciting tournament, and fans across the state will be cheering on their favorite team as they try to make their way to the top.

Who Will Win?

It’s that time of year again. The WIAA Girls Basketball Bracket was released on Sunday, and there are a few tantalizing matchups in store for basketball fans in the state of Wisconsin.

In Class A, top-seeded Beaver Dam will take on fourth-seeded Plymouth in a battle of two conference champions. The Wildcats are coming off an undefeated season in the East Central Conference, while the Panthers went undefeated in the Rocky Moumd Conference. Both teams have a lot of firepower, but Beaver Dam has the edge in experience. They are led by senior point guard Jenna Zamzow, who has committed to play Division I Basketball at UW-Green Bay The Wildcats also have several other players who have experience playing in big games. They will be tough to beat.

In Class B, top-seeded Freedom will take on second-seeded Kettle Moraine Lutheran in a matchup of two undefeated teams. Freedom is led by junior point guard Sammy Van Alstyne, who recently scored her 1,000th career point. She is one of the best players in the state and will be tough to stop. Kettle Moraine Lutheran is no slouch either. They are led by senior center Elizabeth Biese, who is averaging a double-double this season. This should be a great game to watch.

In Class C, top-seeded Manitowoc Lincoln will take on second-seeded Beaver Dam again in another rematch of conference champions. Manitowoc Lincoln went undefeated in the Fox River Valley Conference this season and is led by freshman center Sarah Kohlbeck, who is averaging a double-double. Beaver Dam finished second in the East Central Conference behind Freedom and is led by Zamzow and junior shooting guard Leah Porath. This should be another close game between two talented teams.

Who do you think will win each matchup?

Game 1: (5) Kettle Moraine vs. (4) Arrowhead

In the first game of the WIAA girls Basketball Tournament the (5) Kettle Moraine Lasers will take on the (4) Arrowhead Warhawks.

Kettle Moraine is coming off a loss to Hartland in the conference championship game, while Arrowhead defeated Germantown in their conference finale. Both teams will be looking to get back on track in this one.

The Lasers are led by junior guard Abby Gerrits, who is averaging 16 points per game Gerrits will need to be at her best against an Arrowhead team that is stingy on defense.

The Warhawks are led by senior forward Paige Goyke, who is averaging 13 points and 8 rebounds per game Goyke will be a tough matchup for the Lasers, as she is both strong inside and outside.

This should be a close game but we give the edge to Arrowhead.

Game 2: (3) Kimberly vs. (6) Sun Prairie

In the second game of the WIAA Girls basketball bracket the (3) Kimberly Papermakers will take on the (6) Sun Prairie Cardinals. The Papermakers are coming off a loss to (2) Neenah in their Conference Championship game, while the Cardinals upset (1) Middleton in their conference title game.

3rd Place: (4) Arrowhead vs. (6) Sun Prairie

In the WIAA girls basketball bracket, the 3rd place game will be between Arrowhead and Sun Prairie. Here is a look at both teams:

Arrowhead:
Arrowhead is led by senior Katie Douglas, who is averaging 14.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. The team also has junior Emily Bates, who is averaging 11.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Arrowhead finished the regular season with a record of 18-4 and they are coached by Joe Clark.

Sun Prairie is led by sophomore Taylor Bailey, who is averaging 13.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. The team also has junior Katelyn Seeley, who is averaging 12.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.
